Ladies,

What on earth do you do when you see a pair of shoes that you are desperate to have?!

Ok, I haven't even tried them on. But I saw them online and am just sure they are the shoe that will change my life (ok, not really. I'm not quite that pathetic. But I have spent too much time today surfing around checking out availability and prices at various shops, and know who has them in what colors, etc. Sad.) and I actually can't try them on, even. only available in the US. I'd have to have my mom ship them over here to Germany!

The thing is, they cost $70. I think that is a fair price for shoes, because I always buy quality shoes that will last a long time and are comfortable, rather than buying cheap shoes that hurt my feet and fall apart in 1 season. But I don't really have $70 to go spending on shoes I don't really need. I just WANT them!

What do you do when you find yourself in this situation? I'm ready to start a goody-jar for myself, and put in a Euro or two on occasion, then I can spend it when I've saved enough. I find it tough when I'm not earning any money myself and I see something like this that I just want but don't need. (besides, we have a house we're renovating and could use the $70 in plenty of other places...)

Ideas? Consolations? Sympathy? I'll take it all...

Well... like I tell my kids, if we can't afford it, we don't buy it.

Do you have some items you could sell on Eb*y (or the like) to make some extra $$ for them?

Hmmmm. Tough call. I don't have a shoe fetish thank goodness but have had other passions in the past.
If it's a sale that will last a couple of days, wait and see if you still feel the same mid-week. If you still have to have them, at least you would have really thought about it.

You crack me up! What a fun post.

When I really want something that is clearly not a need and I know I shouldn't get it, I visualize getting them and then being really disappointed in it. Picture them a month into having them. They've been giving you blisters. They started to fall apart at the seems already. The sizing wasn't quite right and the fit is uncomfortable. You can't return them because they were purchased so far way and the company won't refund your money.

I do this with eating too. Sometimes when I want that piece of carrot cake, I viualize someone sneezing on it and all desire flies out the window. :hurl:

yeah, and then I'd have to keep wearing them anyway because dh will point out that they were SO IMPORTANT and life changing that I better get my money's worth (and remind me of what we could have done in the house for that money!) Thanks for that - just what I needed! if only they weren't so cute. I guess I just need to get out more! LOL

I wish I had your problem! Sounds funny, I know, but really NEED a new pair of brown, casual shoes. I am willing to pay more for quality, but I can't find a darn pair that I like! I don't know why, but I'm very picky with shoes.

I was obsessed like that over a handbag a couple years ago. I ended up getting it, and loving it, but always felt guilty about the cost. I might end up eBaying it because I don't need it sitting around reminding me of how much I spent on it! I guess my advice is this: if it will make you feel guilty, it's not worth the cost.

This reminds me of the episode of friends where Monica had to have a $600 pair of boots, ended up making her feet bleed from the blisters, but she had to keep wearing them b/c she told Chandler they were so worth the money!! I've found that nothing lives up the expectations, especially if I buy it when I should have used the money elsewhere.
