DH has a home office, and in the afternoon likes to have a custard, or pudding....some sort of treat.

I was buying the premade cups but at 1.99 - 3.79 per package of 4 (depending on what it was), this seemed outrageous.

I found a recipe on line and figure a batch of 5 portions cost me about .90 The equivalent, premade would have cost me ext. 2.50

Sure, you can buy a pudding mix for around $1.00, but you still have to add at least 1 cup of milk. My total included the milk.

It took me about 10 min. total to make the pudding.

I am sooooo happy to be able to make most of my foods from scratch, just like my Mom, and her Mom....and her Mom did! Who knew that pudding didn't come in little pop-top cans, or cardboard boxes!

Good for you!

On an off note... pudding cups are $2-4 where you are!?! Here I buy no-name brand for $1.29 for 4 I think? Or Hunts are about the same too... I'm in Canada.. always thought food was a lot cheaper in the U.S!?

Fresh is always best but a 4-pack of Hunt't pudding is 10 for $10 at our grocery store. I would like to make it fresh but my daugther doesn't like pudding skin

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of pudding skin either.

I don't make my pudding from scratch but I do by the generic brand powder which I mix up and poor into individual plastic containers.

But the questions is, Adda15, ... did your dh like it?

Pudding cups are usually $1-$1.25 a pack around here. I wait for a 25 cent coupon, go to the store that doubles and buy them for 50 cent a pack.

I'm apparently the nut here, I always like that skin on top of a cup of homemade pudding! But, when you make it if you put a piece of plastic wrap against the top of the pudding after you poor it in the dish it will prevent the skin from forming!

And I usually get the Hunt's snack packs at Wal-Mart for $.97, can't beat that!

as for pudding skin, when my sisters are visiting, i make a batch of homemade and pour it out on a cookie sheet.............................yummmmmmmmmmmmmm ALL SKIN !!!!

Wal Mart brand puddings $.88 for a 4 pack! I figured out that it's almost exactly the same as making it myself after adding in the cost of milk.

Our local store like this left.
first - good for u.
second- I also couldn't believe the price, wow. I only buy if it is on sale .99 and I have 40 cents off coupon. otherwise I don;t buy it.
BTW- I LOVE THE SKIN. My mom makes a sort of pudding called atole. It's a MExican food a cross between pudding and hot chocolate. Its thicker than chocolate and when it cools it's thicker than pudding. man I need mom to come over.

I'm in Ontario Canada too, so maybe I over estimated on the pudding cost since it's been a while since I bought it. DH was eating the yogurt version of moose, can't remember what they were called but there were pricy. He also liked the tapioca but it too costs too much.
Yup, he LOVED them and they are almost gone! Not very cost effective if he eats the whole batch in a couple of days, but I'm happy he is enjoying them.
He loves loves loves the skin. To him its the best part.
