The 'action pack' that go in the dishwasher and don't need a pre-rinse or regular dishwasher soap that does?

What do you use (if you have a dishwasher) and what do you find costs less and works best?

I found out something recently while getting my fridge fixed. At the time, my dishwasher also backed up and had water sitting at the bottom. I asked the repair man and he said that most likely the draining hose was blocked and it needed to be cleared. Although the manufacturers all say that you do not have to rinse your plates before putting them in the dishwasher, if you do not, eventually the hose is going to get plugged and if you do not know how to unplug it, you will be paying a repairman to come out and fix it.

On to your question, I have used both, but lately Costco has had buy one of the cleaning tablets, get one free, so I have been using those.

We just bought a new dishwasher. When we had it installed I was told to only use 1 tsp (or less) of powdered dishwashing soap in each container. At that rate, my box of regular soap is going to last forever. The man from the appliance store said the powder is best for cleaning and for your dishwasher.

i like electrosol tablets. I've tried the wal-mart brand of powdered and it just didn't do a good job. Recently I was able to buy 9 coupons on ebay for one free box of eletrosol, so I'm stocked for awhile.

I switch between the two...Electrosol and WalMart brand. I used to use Electrosol only, but in our new dishwasher it wasn't disolving all the way - so I switched. So far I haven't had any troubles with the WalMart brand.

As for rinsing our dishes...the salesman said that we didn't need to because our dishwasher has the equivelant of a built in disposal in it. ~ I still clean them off and rinse them due to our septic.

Edited to add: sorry didn't really answer the entire question. I also use Jet Dry Rinse - but only have to fill up the container 1X every 3-4 months or so...I don't remember exactly but we have lived here 5 months and I have filled it up once. I have never added it up, but to me I think that is cheaper.

I use about a tsp. of generic powder dishwashing soap and use the economy cycle (to save energy). The dishes seem to turn out just fine.

I only use the 2in1 tablets. They work the best for me and anytime I use something else I am not happy with the results, and vinegar in my rinse.
