i can understand what others are saying and yes, i do agree that with some time spent, you can save money and i dont doubt that at all.
however, in my case, i only "perimeter" shop the grocery store. I only shop in the produce, meat, dairy sections. most of the coupons in the sunday paper are for snacky stuff, new cleaning gizmos, expensive cereal, frozen dinners and such. so i feel i save money buy not buying the thing in the first place.
in my frugalness, ihave really begun to ask myself "do i really need this?" just because i have the coupons that match up with the sale circular doesnt mean i need it. to me, its wasteful to spend money on products that i really dont need. i fall into this trap every time its "triple coupon" time at one of the stores near me. i rush to the store with my pillsbury coupons that triple and get the item for VERY cheap....but then i look in my cart and think "do i really need this in the first place? im trying to loose weight and im buying frozen dinner rolls and cookie mix just for the sake of the cheap price?"
i did this also at cvs this week. yes i have coupons for exederine products. but why spend 16 bucks to get 20 back? yes its a free 4 bucks, but i dont even use exederine and so therefore its a waste for me.
this way of looking at my shopping has helped me trim down my grocery bill to 200 bucks a month. i think thats pretty good.
