I want to start reading more and looking for some ideas on books. What books have you enjoyed or found useful when it comes to saving $ around the house? Anything from cookbooks to household management books, to lifestyle book, or anything else you might think would be helpful.

My library seems to have a great selection of books that can be requested from nearby libraries so I am assuming I could find just about anything.

I am kind of like you and looking for books like this. I am currently reading "So You Want to be a Stay at Home Mom." It gives ideas and tips on how to save money and do creative things with your kids. I ordered from Amazon.com for less than $1.

Miserly Moms!!! I borrowed it from the library but liked it so much I bought it. I read it every few months to refresh, but I love love love it! And for a great cookbook..."Cheap.Fast.Good! " is fantastic! It is full of recipes and tips too!

More With Less Cookbook - Doris Janzen Longacre

Description: "Recipes and suggestions by Mennonites on how to eat better and consume less of the world's limited food resources. Since 1976, More with Less Cookbook has helped thousands of families establish a climate of joy and concern for others at mealtime, while improving nutrition and saving money."

Great frugal recipes. Simple ingredients. I love this cook book! :rah rah:

Complete Tightwad Gazette, and Miserly Moms are good. For cookbooks I love the 1963 1st edition McCalls's (got mine from eBay) and the Bisquick Cookbook (published in 2000), I also find vegetarian cookbooks to be excellent in general.

Definately Tightwad Gazette. It was Amy's newsletter (the basis of the book) that turned my life around.

I have "Cheaper, Better" by Nancy Birnes about making your own products for cleaning, etc. It is out of print so when you see a copy at a garage sale or thrift store, grab it.

The old books: "The Richest Man in Babylon", "Think and Grow Rich", and "How to Get Out of Debt, Stay Out of Debt and Live Prosperously"

"Personal Finance for Dummies"

For cooking, "Frozen Assets" by Debbie Taylor-Hough.

And here are a few that might be surprising ...

"The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Families" by Stephen Covey plus his other 7 habits books.

"The Merck Manual" a medical reference which can keep you out of the doctor's office or get you to go when you really need to! The same goes for "The Physician's Desk Reference of Prescription Drugs" so you can look up all your prescription medications.

Many of the Nolo Press books for legal advice, especially making your own will without an attorney.

I agree with many above that any books by Jonni McCoy and Mary Hunt are excellent, but also "Dining on a Dime" by Jill Cooper and Tawra Kellam is good too. There is also a book called "Make a Mix" by Karen Eliason which has a lot of homemade mix recipes.
