We have talked about a similar "experiment" before. Here's an article about people who have had to decide what their needs and wants were. Then, they spent the month of February buying only necessities:

What do you think?

Wow, how interesting!Saving that $300 would be awesome!

However, for myself, I really don't think I could do it- inevitably I'd want to purchase something be it scrapbooking supplies, a new book, something! But I may challenge myself to a two week trial and see how that goes. What's the worst that could happen?

I absolutely *LOVE* the idea!! I'm thinking I couldn't do it for a bit though.. i'm due in a little over a month and still need a few big ticket items, and some 'small ticket' items too.. But i'd definitely like to do this in the near future!!

Wish we could manage to do that! With kids though, it isn't possible here. Every month dd's preschool celebrates SOMETHING and I am buying them goodies. We also have birthdays in the family constantly, and I do not have a stockpile of gifts.

HOWEVER, just by staying home because I am pregnant. (I literally only go out once a week) I have saved a LOT of money.

I just talked to the boyfriend after reading this and we are going to try this out starting April 1st. ONE MONTH! Only necessities. We are really going to discuss it when I get off work and go into more details with it. I think we can do it. We wil be staying home a lot or doing free things.
