I agree with the PMS, I can easily over spend then. Also when I'm beginning a new craft project that I'm passionate about, for example a new quilt. My excitement can take over my brain and I'm in the fabric shop, blown some cash, back home again.... then going OMG what did I do?
When my kids are having problems is another big trigger. I have an 8 year old autistic son. He's been bullied at school all year, the school is fantastic in sorting it out, but I still feel broken hearted for him. Last week I had a talk with his class aid, then went to pay bills. I wandered around the shops for two hours almost in tears worrying about him, but I didn't want to go home. This is my trigger time. I realised it and all I bought was a sweet little book for $7.95, it's about sharing the little things that mean so much between family and friends. I was SO proud of myself that I realised I wanted to blow some money but I didn't.
