I feel liike my family is foiling my plans each time I try to save some money! For instance I had intentions of putting loose change and dollars into a coffee can until I had enough saved up to start a savings account at my bank. My husband then asks where is the $5.00 I had the other day (left over from the laundrymat) and then my 5 year old starts playing with the change. Am I the only one this happens to? How can I save with my unfrugal family?

I just did it... started an ING account and they take about 10% out of dh's paycheck each week automatically.. so nobody can get into it. I could never save change and small bills around the house either.. lol!

I agree that the best way would be to have money automatically deducted and deposited into a savings account. This way you never see the money and do not have the temptation to spend it. You could start with a low amount and up it as your finances allow.

For the most part- I try to hide it ( I have one hidden in our room on my side of the closet! shhh- don't tell DH!)! I don't keep track of my change until it is time for me to cash it in! Yesterday my DH took $10 worth of quarters out of the one change jar (it's actually a cookie jar- converted to my easy access change jar) in order for hime to wash the car and degrease the cars engine (yes- my hubby is checking for any leaks on our "family" vehicle before vacation)- I was upset and told him that it is the extra "fun" money from our vacation and he would need to pay it back- he paid $6.75 towards it. Gosh- I am good at these guilt tatics! For the most part it is most of my change- I throw whatever change i find or have into it(my DH spends his change- except for pennies).

We don't really use cash, so we hardly have any change laying around to put in a jar. So, I think I'm going to try to steal a few bucks here and there ($5 from my groceries, etc) and slip it into a jar or envelope that's tucked away (I won't tell DH). After a long while I'll count it up and deposit it into a savings account -- in a separate bank so we can't just transfer the money over and use it in a weak moment. I think maybe I'll also start taking my grocery budget out in cash, and trying to shop even harder to spend less and get more, and then putting the rest in the savings jar.

this is how i get my emergency money jar i write a check at walmart or the regular grocery store wich one i'm at and i write it for over the amount then tuck that money in my jar.(if i went over my grocery budget then i don't but that rarely happens)

I put my change into a glass piggy bank that has to be broken to get into it. Once it is full I break it and deposit the money. I then replace the bank and start again. Our Walmart has the banks for $1.88. They have the plastic version for $1. This way once it goes in I know it won't come out until I am ready to deposit it.
