I've been meaning to count the change in my "milk jug"/vase for a while now.
I only keep pennies, nickels and dimes, as I have to save the quarters for laundry...
I'll have to count it this weekend, and will post my "grand total"...ha ha
I like the idea of having different jars, etc. for different things.
I have one separate one going, with money I get from my recycled cans, to go toward special things I want for my new house!! Those are bills, the other jar is just "chump change"...

My mom has loads of coins and so we were going through her boxes/bags stored in my garage and there was a small piggy bank full of mostly pennies and a small bag also of pennies that she gave me along with some change I have. Right now before I start counting it I'm at $57. 51. Okay, her change she gave us came to $16. 26 that included some change I had from today. So, our total for our vacation jar is now $73. 77. We're alot closer to our goal now of at least $165 for our camping trip. That includes the cost of 2 days renting a mini cabin-($45 a day), the park vehicle fee-($18), the two fishing licenses, one for me ($15) and one 24 hr one for my daughter for ($7). Plus, I need to purchase a camp stove or table top stove for $15 and a fishing pole for about $17. I need $91. 23 more to reach my goal.

That's if I decide to keep it my goal, I may just do an outing with fishing/cooking outdoors, etc. all day be the goal instead of camping for 2 days because my daughter is going camping several times this summer. She's going with her school for 2 1/2 days, for one week this summer to another camp, and then a daycamp at the Humane Society. It would save me about $110 if I did and then I could take my jar and use it for some of those other camp costs which are all due on May 1st. I am leaning more toward the outing instead.

Ok...I think I get the idea of putting any extra change in a jar as I do this for my girls savings accounts. But....now that I am using coupons and saving money, do I then put the extra that I saved in there also, or do I just roll that into stockpiliog items I don't have much of right now. I am new to this and need some assistance.

I decided that instead of camping we would have a day trip to the park, I am splitting my $73.77 up into 2 jars. I am keeping $50 in our "Vacation Jar", I'm saving quarters only in this jar. I need about $70 altogether for our day trip. The $23 that is left will be put in an "Emergency Fund" for anything we need, extra food/bills etc. I'm saving nickels, and pennies in this jar. I am also making a "Xmas Jar" saving dimes only and a "Move back to Tennessee jar", saving dollars only.

I am so glad to see how good everyone is doing. I swear one day I will actually count my change. Although I know dh has gotten in to mine!

Mariliyah--You can save any way that you want to. Some of us are just putting in any spare change we have. For instance I don't spend change when I'm out somewhere, only bills so all the change goes into my jar. If you are trying to stockpile and want to build yours up I would continue to keep that money separate so you can use it to purchase more items for your stockpile.

However, there are no rules to this savings thing. You can do it however works best for you. Some ladies save dollar bills, some only quarters, some everything but quarters. It just depends on what is best for your situation. The same goes with what everyone is saving for. Some are using it for an emergency fund, some vacations, birthdays, special treats, college. Whatever. I am using mine to save for something that I want that I really don't need so I can't justify just going out and buying it. Right now its for a new video camera. Just do whatever works best for you and don't forget to check in!
