My main coupon source is the Sunday paper. Once in a while I find them in magazines or promo materials from manufacturers, but I don't count on those.
Over the course of a week, I spend maybe an hour working on coupons. It doesn't take me long to clip ones for the products we actually use or are willing to try, and it doesns't take all that long to file them in the accordian folder. The bulk of the time is to go through the supermarket sales circular and see what's on sale this week so I can match those sales up with my coupons.
Before I hit the grocery store, I have a detailed list with the coupons I want to use. I also pull coupons for things I could use or am running low or coupons that are about to expire. My toddler doesn't allow much time in the grocery store, so I don't get to use the coupon collection as efficiently as I'd like.
About once a month or so, I go through the whole coupon folder to discard expired ones and to remind myself of what I have in there.
Sometimes my savings amazes me; sometimes I don't do well at all. I just figure that every little bit helps.
