Do you get a rush when you find a great deal and save money? Do you always think in terms of how much you've saved on something, rather than what you've spent? Sometimes when you're caught up in finding bargains you forget that people can go into debt "saving" money! I have to remind myself of this from time to time. It's not a bargain if you don't need it. Just thought I'd throw this thought out there again in case it might help someone new.

I am. I get an endorphin rush whenever I get a good bargain. Buat as you said, I frequently end up buying things "just because they're a good bargain"....then they sit in bags in my extra bedroom or the back of my van unused. Bad aliadam....

I was a "spaver" more when I lived closer to places to spend. I was in a Target everyday (there were 4 very close to me) to see what was on clearance. I never wanted to miss something that was 90% off (WHAT A DEAL!! :D) When we scaled back to move, I saw so many "great deals" get donated or given away and it really put things into perspective for me. How much money I had spent that we were now giving away.

When I get to Target now (it's now 25 miles away) I try to do better - but still have to make my way past all the clearance spots.

today, I'm DREADING going grocery shopping because I don't want to spend money. But we NEED groceries. We are even out of a few things, and on the last roll of TP. This morning I went threw my coupons and I'mrunning low on the coupons I need, that I'm almost afraid to leave the house because of the amount of $$ I'm gonna spend. NOw when I first started thsi coupon thing, I did get that 'high' at the checkout when I saw all the money I was saving. I'm afraid I won't get that today, just DREAD.

Our culture's marketing spins always make it sound as if you will save by spending. It's easy to get caught in that trap, and I do know people who have gone by that. I think that I've pretty much avoided it because I see the money going out, rather than what I've saved. I think I've talked myself into kind of laughing at their advertising: "Buy now! Save 70%!" - that one is always in jewelry. Save 70% off what? It's usually a hyped up price. Furniture stores are another one. They always have "sales", but they simply find different ways to sell their furniture. Few people would pay the MSRP.

I'm definately a "spaver"! I'm still "high" from the amount I saved at Kmart buying Martha Stewart table cloths, and matching cloth placemats, at an after Xmas sale last year! I think they were 75% off, and I ended up paying like $4 for each table cloth and $1.50 for the placemats. They're just beautiful...red with a white design that looks more Native American than Xmas, so they'll be perfect for the curtains and pillows I plan to make out of them for my living room...one of these days!! Yes, I used to be, but like others I have ended up giving stuff away that I got such a great deal on! How good of a deal is that then? So now I only buy it if I really need it, or for a specific person in mind. Being on a budget has really changed my way of thinking!

Have you seen the new Ross commercial where the lady gets all this stuff for her backyard? I mean, a LOT of stuff. Her husband asks her how much she spent, but she replies "it's more like how much I saved." Hmmm...is it really?
