What are you doing to conserve and off set the cost of gas?

I stop on the way home and pick up anything we may need. My DH works from home so on the days that I am off we use his car and if we need to go somewhere after work we take his car since he is at home and does not have to drive as much as I do. Last week I filled up on Monday for $42 and it lasted for the week and I didn't have to fill up again until the the following Tuesday.:happy dance:

I have been saving all of my errands to do in as few trips as possible. I have also been riding bike as much as possible with my kids in tow in the bike trailer.

Ditto. We've also upgraded to more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Dh's truck is staying parked a lot more than usual! I am able to work at home a couple days a week so he can take my car, which helps. We are just really trying to be aware of where we need to go for the week and combine as many trips as possible. I work on the opposite side of town he does, so we try to each run errands and such that are closest to us.

We were planning on driving somewhere for a short vacation this summer but have decided not to b/c we've heard gas is only going to keep increasing, and we got a great deal on plane tickets thru a new airline!

The gas prices WILL be affecting us more soon! Dhs office is moving further away currently he only has an 8 mile drive but come June 1 it will be 25 miles. Not to mention we are driving to Fl from Oh thats not going to be pretty. I have started to set money aside for gas on the trip. The only saving grace once we are there will be that we can park the car for the week and forget about it.

We are also rethinking our Costco membership even though I feel like we save money there. I heard the membership is going up to $50.00 and its further away from us. May not be worth it in the long run.

So far it hasn't. My tank is 14 gallons (probably 15 but I don't get that low).

A tank of gas at $2.50 per gallon is $35.00. A tank of gas at $3.00 per gallon is $42.00. I use about a tank a week. The difference is $7 a week or about $364 a year. At that price point it doesn't make a huge dent in our budget.

However, I've heard talk about gas getting up to $4 a gallon. That would make a fill-up $56.00. I admit, I would have to get used to that one.

Well we're eating less Gotta have the money come from somewhere...take it from where we can. Also I have stopped going as many places. I try to run into town only when I have to, and then get as much done as I can. Most often I can make a tank of gas last in the truck 2+ weeks. Though it's not hitting us as much with my truck - it's my DH who drives so far to work each day (160mi round trip) - he needs to get there, that's where the increase comes for us. Crossing my fingers the cost will go back down at some point.

I have been trying to find more reliable carpooling. I have been trying to cut back on overall errands by having dh stop on the way home instead of me making a special trip. I also don't fill up. I only get 8 gallons and then pray it will be lower price by the time I need to get more gas. I have to take kids to school daily and I already carpool with another parent.
I have been debating whethe I should go garage saling today. I think I will just to get it out of my system. there are a couple fairly close by. the one I really want to go to is further away, but close to aldi's so I can make an excuse for that.

Gas price in my area of Minnesota is $2.99.

Well, for me I have been conserving gas very well recently. I only drive on days I have to (like taking the youngest to preschool- it's about 7 miles away and there is no way I would walk there with a 3 year old), and I run my errands while she is in school- so basically I only leave the house 2 days a week. On the weekend- I have been able to save money on that thanks in part to my DH- who can not sit still in the house!- has been working side jobs and me and the girls for the most part stay local if we have to go anywhere. Not only am I conserving gas- I am saving money by not trying to leave the house!
