I thought it would be easier if we went Friday-Friday for our challenge to only spend $50-$75 this week on groceries.
1. look in pantry and know what you already have
2. plan your meals for the next 7 days (plan around sale ads)
3. stick to your list

Good luck!

Is this food items only, or do we include dog food, toilet paper, etc.. in our grocery bill?
Friday to Friday is a great idea, since the majority of us get paid on Friday. This will be a fun challenge!!

New to this site but I want to jump in on the grocery challenge. I stocked up on non parishables this week at costco and stayed under $30 at the market. I am so up to this
So for this next week I say $30 again
I have started using a general meal plan to give me order and keep flexablity

My day one is going to be $0 spent. I'm not doing any grocery shopping until I see the Sunday circulars. I've got everything I need until I take stock and see what's on sale for next week

FYI the challenge is just money spent on groceries and anything to drink. Not diapers, toiletries, etc

Today I spent:
1.00 vanilla at Dollar Tree
8.86 on 3 12 pks Mt Dew (on sale at CVS-dh addiction is Mt Dew)

This should be it until Monday. I'll bring my lunch to work and I won't buy any coffee there.

I will jump in here this is a great idea! My pantry is beyond stocked and I thought I should see how long I can go with out actually buying groceries we are a family of 6 so I am going to do my best to buy only milk eggs bread juice.... for the next couple of weeks and see how I do! I love the idea of this challenge!

I'd love to join in - this is right inline with what I've been working on lately - buying only what we need to eat and not stuff "just because it's on sale." I had a great start, spent $16.08 at Kroger, and I just need to buy milk, butter, strawberries and deli meat at Meijer tomorrow (it's less there), and I'll have enough for the next week.

What about eating out? Do we include that? We typically don't eat out often, but next Friday my DD is going to spend the night at her Aunt's, so whenever it's just my husband, infant and I we go out for sushi.

This morning I made my list of all things I need this week from the grocery store. I then went through the sale adds of the 3 local stores. I took 3 different highlighters and color coated each item that was on sale at which store. For instance If it is on sale at VONS it's highlighted in pink, if it's on sale at Ralphs it's highlighted in yellow and so on. The 3 stores are only a couple miles from eachother so I will start at the furthest and work my way back home. The furthest store is only 5 miles away. Tonight when I shop I will see if this saved me any time, I will let you know.
