This is kind of a spin-off of the "Make your own cleanser" sticky in the organizing forum. I've heard of some people making their own soap or shampoo, etc. I'm wondering if any of you ladies out there do anything like that. Or maybe you have a use for an everyday product. Please share!

I'll go first:
Vaseline
I find that vaseline works GREAT as a lip balm! It not only protects your lips from the elements, but it also conditions them and makes them softer...and a little shiny! A travel sized tub costs about 80 cents and lasts over a year.
A frind of mine also discovered that vaseline also works well on diaper rashes! It creates a great barrier.

So what are your tips and tricks?

Honestly I just don't use a lot of beauty products. I don't thing DD cares that I don't wear make up. Or use hair products other then shampoo and conditioner. I think you need to go a little natural and sinceable. For example shorter, undyed, un highlited, un permed hair is much less expensive. I found that a lot of the baby products I am have recieved as giftes. When I do use make up I get it from my mom. Our coloring is different and she gives me her free samples of stuff.

I keep a little tube of vaseline in the car. When I'm stopped at a traffic light I'll rub a little dab into my fingernails and cutiles. It makes your nails very strong and they are less likely to break if you keep them moisturized.

Oatmeal makes a great dry moisturizer. Set aside a small container of oatmeal in a wide mouth jar. When you think of it, dip your hands into the oatmeal and rub them around. Your hands will feel very soft and smooth afterwards.

You can use this oatmeal also to make a paste - either with a little water or a little milk - and put it on your face. When it starts to dry, rub the rest of it off and wash your face. It will be very soft and smooth.

Use Listerine as a hair rinse, especially if you have dandruff or an itchy scalp. Yes, you will smell like Listerine for a day or two but it is worth it.

My grandma told me to use baby wipes as make-up remover pads. They remove eye makeup and the "stay all day" lipstick great! I already have them laying around the house and they are much cheaper then a actual "makeup remover". Great idea.

I keep a can of solarcaine around the house at all times, especially in the spring and summer (when the kiddies are out doors playing.)

Instead of buying all the band-aids, I use the solarcaine for any cut, scrape, burn, or "ouwie". It cleans, numbs, and cools all at the same time. Now, when my kids get hurt, they no longer ask for a band-aid. They say,"Mom, can I have the spray?" I spray it on, and they go back outside and play. It's great.
I was out of band-aids one day, and my DD scraped her knee. She came in crying, and the solarcaine was all I had. She was skeptical, but I convinced her it was better than a band-aid. After that, the girls were hooked!!!

I make a facial mask by beating one egg white and applying to my face. It gets rid of dead skin cells and tightens pores.

I do this too-- I also add peroxide to boost whitening (my dentist recommended years ago).

I use Bag Balm for chapped lips. I also put it on my dry feet at night and then a pair of socks and they are soft by morning. It also works great for diaper rash.

My favorite beauty "secret" is a teaspoon of honey mixed with a teaspoon of milk. Mix until the honey is completely disolved in the milk. Smooth on your face and leave for 10 minutes. You won't need to moisturizer after. Use this if you are breaking out a lot and you will notice clear skin within a few days. You might find a couple of pimples the next day, because the honey draws out the toxins from your skin, but after the initial breakout, you won't have any more, as long as you use this! Better than proactive! The milk is a great skin brightner and moisturizes.

I'll have to try some of the other things listed here! Great thread!

I use cheap hair conditioner for shaving. Not only is it more affordable than shaving cream, but it doesn't sting like soap and it leaves skin feeling soft.

I've found lots of great ideas and beauty recipes on the Reader Tips section of pioneerthinking.com

I use body wash as shaving cream also. I like to put a layer of vaseline on my feet and slip on a pair of socks before I go to bed to soften them. I also use vaseline as a lip balm! I am definately trying the milk & honey tip! I have also used baby wipes as makeup remover, I like the Huggies Sensitive wipes.
