Hi there- we are currently paying off HUGE debt--some through our own mismanagement, some through being manipulated by family members and some through having people not pay us the promised amount when we were self employed---<sigh but smiling>
For years I have purchased organic flour to make our bread as I KNOW the stuff in the shops here in NZ has been bleached. I have had to do a complete re-think about that and trust in the Lord to look after our health when we eat the other flour etc.
I went on line to order our flour. It comes in 25 kg bags. Well the price has gone up by a massive $10 per bag to $54 and that is not including the freight costs to get it here. The cost of 10 kg rolled oats went up to $48.00 excluding freight.
So now it is a trip to the supermarket where the flour is $1 a kg for white and $1.75 a kg for wholemeal (whole wheat). The rolled oats are $1.22 a kg.
And so this chapter in our lives for eating organic (apart from what we grow in our huge garden) has come to an end.
Has anyone else had to re-think the choices they make to get debt paid off faster?

Well, we have definitely had to re-think ALL of our financial choices, due to massive debt. We are doing very, very FEW things that are fun. But, when we are finally debt-free, we are going to Disney World, so that is our big goal that makes sacrificing worth it.

To us, being debt-free is so very important, that we are willing to do without a lot of things. It's definitely tough. Best of luck to you!

YES, YES & YES!!!

We definitely have made lots of changes and keep making them...
Going from 2 to 1 car
Cutting out on expensive food (ex. big steaks and other meats)
Cutting out on restaurants & take outs
Cutting my esthetician bills (I do most myself now)
Getting rid of the cleaning lady (Since I'm a SAHM now I do my house cleaning now)
Cancelling cellular phones
We have no cable TV

My latest changes:
Hanging clothes outside (or inside if ouside is impossible) instead of using dryer
Cutting quantities of laundry & dishwashing soap I use (making experiments to see how low I can go)
Not using the drying on the dishwashing anymore

Well that's all I can think about this morning

and I forgot,

I bought cheaper coffer (5$/KG instead of the 16$/KG I usually buy) and we are also making experiments on how we can mix so the taste is still good. My DH likes 1/2 & 1/2 but I find that there is not a big difference between the two if I put a pinch of salt when I make it.

That's all, I think...

We too eat out less and don't buy many of the things we would have without thinking a year ago. We have cut back on books, games, clothes, events and gift budgets.
