I don't mean to go to the store to pick up a couple things. I mean to plan a menu and make purchases according to that. Do you do weekly, biweekly, monthly? Do you find it makes a difference in how much you spend? Currently I have been trying to go monthly (super walmart is 40 min. away) to save gas but I find myself having to get stuff (a weeks worth or meals) after 3 wks. so I need to change something.

I go every other week. On the week I don't do my big grocery shopping, I still have to go for bread, milk, and other little things we may have ran out of. Every 2 weeks works good for me.

Every other week...The only thing that is questionable is milk...we go through about 2 gallons every week and a half -2 weeks (So some weeks I might not need an extra trip). There have been some weeks I have stretched groceries to 3 weeks and once last summer I stretched it to 4 weeks when the kids were on vacation with my parents and it was just DH and I.

It's just me and my DH and we go every other week. We go to Trader's Joe and Wegman. I don't do much of meal planning, even though I should. I used to do it and my DH really liked it, bc he knew what he would be eating that week.
If it wasn't for getting fresh fruits and vegs, I would probably go even less. We signed up for CSA this summer, so hopefully it will decrease the number of times we have to go shopping.

I used to go every week. For the past month I have gone every other week. I do my menu plan and all. I think I am spending less, 1. because every time I go out I find somewhere else to stop where I spend money. (target, walmart, McDonald's) 2. I'm buying less impulse items, since my cart is fuller. 3. I spend less on gas going back and forth. I haven't had to stop in between trips eaither. I buy and freeze bread, lunch meat and milk and buy two bunches of bananas one that's really green.

I have been going every week to get the best sale prices. Our grocery store has weekly sales and I like to stock up on the things we use a lot of when they are on sale. We eat alot of salads so I like to be able to get fresh produce every week. We have a grocery store that is only 2 miles from our house so gas isn't really an issue. If I had to drive farther I would rethink my plan.

Weekly, once a month one of the trips is a costco run and one is to someplace like trader Joes to get some veriety. Once a week works well for us.

I go weekly because of the sale ads. I watch the sale prices and stock up big time on things we use if it is a good enough sale. It saves me a lot of money this way! I only buy a few things that aren't on sale usually.

I shop once a week also. I am a stockpiler (including meat), so the only things I have to buy weekly are the fresh items. I then add only items that are on sale and plan my menu around that. I agree with a previous post regarding weekly sales. I can't stand to miss out on a good deal. I also try to match sales & coupons to get the best deal possible.
