Thrift stores or consignment shops are great!! You have to really look, but I find great things. I got my favorite pair of jeans at a thrift store. They are Lee jeans that were pretty much brand new, I paid $1.40!!!!!

I shop anywhere I can find the right price on things. Though my Favorite is eddie bauer outlet. They tend to have more in the way of bigger sizes.
I am currently measure at a 38J cup when it comes to bras. Busty is a hard thing to work with because the plus sizes that fit my front gape in the back and the things that fit my back and sholders cant be buttoned and forget about being trendy. If I find something cheep enough that I like I will normally get it.

I order most of my clothing from QVC. They have excellent clothes and the quality is good. I have a skirt that I bought from them 5 years ago and it looks brand new. I also like to buy at Target.

I am a classic dresser and I buy mostly, classic, well made clothing. I have a mixture though, I shop all over the place...from department stores like Saks, Nordstrom's, Neiman Marcus to the usual suspects like Ann Taylor, J Crew, Talbot's to places like Target, H&M etc I also like places like TJMaxx and Marshall's...I find the greatest things at those places.
I take really careful care of all my clothes. I have a lot of slacks, simple flat front khakis, dark rinse jeans...a lot of simple sweaters, sweater sets, tshirts - long and short sleeve etc I have sweaters from high school that I still wear...slacks from college that still look great. I think that if you buy something quality to begin with, it will last so much longer for you. But that's my experience. I'd rather have one pair of terrific black pants, than 10 pairs of 'okay' ones. But that's me.
I'm out and about a lot, so I see what's out there...know when sales are etc A friend of mine might see something they know I like or might like, and they'll call me and tell me it's on sale and I might tell them to grab it for me. We all do it with each other. It's a fabulous resource! Last year I found 3 pairs of work slacks for one of my friends husbands once! L.OL!
I very rarely buy things full price, places like Talbot's, most notably, have fabulous sales. I'm near two Talbot's Stores and then also, an Outlet. They sell their stuff for a fraction of what it was orginally marked. You almost feel guity about it! L.OL! Some of their stuff is 'fuddy duddy' to me but I do like them for quality basics. They have great customer service, as do the major department stores. I've never had a bad experience. I can go for months and months without buying a single piece of clothing and then also have periods of time where I'm buying a lot of things...just depends on what I'm looking for, what I like etc

I really like outlet stores- not the ones in malls or shopping centers, but the ones that are somewhere off on their own in the middle of nowhere. When I got married, I found a Jessica McClintock outlet where I got a $285 dress for $30. You should've seen my husband's eyes when I told him how much the dress retailed for! But when I told him how much I actually paid, he was in shock.
Other than that, I usuallly have an idea of what I want and how much I am really willing to spend on anything. It makes it really easy when I see something I kind of like and I look at the price tag. For anything over X ammount, it has to be able to withstand anything.

Here's how I just got $800-1000 worth of clothing for FREE!!!
My friends and I just got together and swapped our clothes. I lost some weight so I needed a whole new wardrobe. I ended up with 55 pieces of new (to me) clothing or accessories. My friends got some really nice pieces, too. I know everyone went home happy AND we still have a pile (like 7 trash bags) of clothes to donate to Goodwill.
I'm SOOOO excited. With weight gain and loss with pregnancies, I haven't had such a great wardrobe in years. Some items are like BRAND NEW!
This is super fun and a great way to declutter. Plus, I think it's easier to part with clothes that are still in great or like new condition (maybe "too good" for goodwill), if you know that friends will end up with them.
BUT, if I have to go out and spend money, I like to shop at Kohl's, Old Navy, Gap, or Ann Taylor.

I do what TV shows do sometimes. I don't know exactly the name of the show is when they have an outfit from a fashion magazine but they want to buy "same" outfit for cheaper price. I have a limit of $30. I shop in Thrift shop/yardsale and anywhere where I can find good bargain. I cut out the outfit that I like in a magazine then I carry it with me. So far I've been lucky. I can buy a whole outfit (shoes, dress, tops etc..) for a cheaper price. Sometimes I can get two outfits for $30 which is not bad.

What instructions do you have for someone wanting to do this? What if your friends all wear different sizes?

We did this when I was in my early twenties and was living in a ski town in CO. We were all around the same age and we weren't all the same sizes by any means, but we would just get together a couple of times a year at someone's house and make margaritas and bring all the stuff we didn't want anymore. We would just lay it out everyone would start trying stuff on. It was SO fun! There were plenty of things (like shoes and accessories and purses, etc. ) for people that couldn't find actual clothing in their sizes. We were really casual about it - we just kind of said don't take more than you brought - but like Paisley we always ended up with lots of stuff to give to Goodwill anyway. Everyone had a blast and went home happy with some "new" things.
Now that I am older and dress more like a grownup and have more money to spend, I buy my clothes from Saks, Neimans, and Bloomingdales mostly. I wait until Jan. and August when they have their 75% sales (I am on the mailing lists so I get cards in the mail giving me the dates) and I stock up. I get cashmere sweaters for under $50 every year at Neiman's Last Call sale. A cute cashmere sweater with some good jeans and a little jacket makes for a very nice "mom outfit" that is still very comfy. In the summer I find great skirts and dresses. It is still really hot here in GA in early August and I have a couple of months to wear the new stuff, and it still feels new when I pull it out the next year. My advice is to get to know the sale schedules at the nice department stores because they mark things down so low that you get excellent quality things at unbelievable prices, but they go quickly so you have to be on the ball.
