If you enjoy shopping for clothes and looking your best, what are your best tips to do this on a budget? Where do you shop?

I've found lately that investing a little bit more in the pieces I love is worth it. I've been shopping more at Ann Taylor because those pieces are timeless and not trendy. However, I still shop their sale racks! Last week I got an $80 shirt for $14.99 and I love it!

Stick with classic clothes, not the trend of the year. (Although capris have been around for a few years now-is it here to stay or will it go away?)

I like Target and Kohls when I want to buy something that looks nice and is affordable. There are consignment stores out there that only accept namebrand clothes so that's always an option.

I don't know if I am a "fashionista" but I do like to shop. I typically wear solid colors, which never go out of style. If I have any form of pattern, it's subtle so the style will not fade and I'm left with something I can never wear again!! I like having black dress pants, skirt and a black suit jacket that can be worn with something else in my wardrobe. If I buy a complete suit, I make sure it's a color I can get a lot of use of: blue, black or brown. I always have to have shoes to match too, so if I stick with those colors I am sure to have a nice shoe too, so I don't have to buy those too!

That is why I love LL Bean, Eddie Bauer, Gap and Ann Taylor LOFT. I especially love ATL because her clothing is comfortable, stylish and like you said Kim "timeless". What I typically do is check our her sale and clearance racks and also try ebay. Often times you can find people decluterring and getting rid of clothes they can no longer fit into or simply don't wear enough of! Yeah me!

I have also had very good look at Goodwill. People don't give thrift stores enough credit. I myself have taken many loads of house hold goods and clothing to thrift stores and I have nice things, so you can imagine that others feel the same way. I found a pair of Buckle jeans there six months ago and paid only $5 for them. I didn't realize they would become my FAVORITE pair of jeans and are now discontinued (bummer). But to know I only paid $5.00 for them and they were a name brand, I was ecstatic

I also like to scan "nice neighborhoods" yard sales. People are always downsizing their wardrobes. I often get to stock up on clothing sizes for my boys for present and other seasons!

Mommysavers online shopping forum is another good resource. Sometimes this site gets exclusive deals and I take full advantage of them! Last year at Christmas I stocked up for my nephews baby showers. It was fun!

When I was working downtown Chicago, I would walk by Ann Taylor and Nine West on my way to work each day. I would always stop in these stores when they had sales and found some great deals!!!! I agree that spending a little more on certain items will allow them to last longer and look better! My Ann Taylor pants lasted me about 4-5 years with continuous wear everyday to work!!! I loved them!

Now, I don't work anymore, so I don't feel the need to spend the extra money on clothes. My son does not really care if I wear pj's all day or if I just wear some Old Navy or Kmart clothes.

I think it is best to spend the extra money on "Classic" items that will last you. (i.e. suites, slacks, jackets.)
Then, on other clothes like shirts and "play clothes"....they get so trendy and change every year, so I don't spend much on those.

I spent the most on one or two black or brown shoes for work.....other than that it was Target and payless for shoes. Then, one good pair of Nike gym shoes.

I am with Kim and Christy, although I shop Casual Corner and Petite Sophisticate, and on occasion Talbots. I am very short 5'2", so I like the petite stores for pants. But MOST of the time it is off the clearance racks. Another good one is Macy's for clearance racks...

Another couple of favorite stores are Ross and Marshall's....they have the designer "rejects" for a lot less. I was recently in Marshall's and got around 8 tops for $50 or so...and they were all designer and GREAT fabrics!!

Oh....and I agree with the "timeless" pieces and not what is "trendy".

Lately I started to go shopping for clothes with a list. I do this for myself and the kids. For my summer clothes I looked at what I had and made a list of what I needed to complete. My list had 3 sections: 1. Absolutely need, 2. Would really like if I can find at a good price, 3. it would be nice to have but could to without if I don't find a bargain.

Also I find that it is good to find good shopping partners. I usually ask my mom to come with me because she is a great shopper always good with advice and finding the things I want at a good price. I also have a friend I often ask to come with me for her advice and great shopping skills!!

I used to buy jeans at Old Navy, but realized that I was getting holes in the knees after just 6 months or so. So, even though I was getting the jeans for cheaper up front, it was costing more in the long run. A couple months ago, I went to Ross and bought a pair of Lucky Jeans, which are the most comfortable pair of jeans I've ever owned. Usually they cost a minimum of $85 up to $150!! Ross's price was $32!!! If it's something that I want to last a long time, I am willing to spend a little more, but still try to find a great deal. If it's a trend, I will go somewhere and buy it cheaply. Since trends don't stay for years, it doesn't matter if I buy a top for $10 that is only going to last me 6 months. I like a good deal, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to buy a trend. Just because I'm a mom, doesn't mean I have to look like a frump! I'd rather be a MILF!!

well, I love dressing in nice/cute/fashionable clothes. The problem is I'm FAT and SHORT. so, for me clothes shopping is hockey sticks. I have recently found a great NEW little black dress at Goodwill and a Apostile(whatevr that store is) aqua blue pant suit NEW, which I wore for dd first communion. I am starting to go into stores that I never thought I could. also being a plus size I was very aware of my "size". I have found Talbots I need a 3X, but in other stores I wear an 18(as in the pant suit). I had to let go of the number and focus on the fit. which if you're already a plus size it extremely hard to do.
Since I rarely need "nice" clothes I refuse to buy at less than 75% off. I will spend on quality but I can always find it cheaper unless I have a time limit.

Aeropostale is a great store that has cute trends for not a lot of money. I like to shop their sales racks, but sometimes feel out of place in the midst of all the jr. and sr. high school students!

FOr the larger figure I buy from Avenue, they have great sales and they really make clothes, nice clothes for the larger figure. I bought about 4 NICE work pants from there and the tops I buy from Target, Walmart, Marshalls ect. Shoes from Walmart, payless ect. I wear them for summer, then store them or wear for winter and then store them, so they last me about 3-4 seasons.
I just bought a top from Walmart, on clearance $6.00, a nice baby blue indian style tunic. looks great with my grey work pants and I knwo I can wear it a couple of seasons.
