I was shopping for some cards the other day (Mother's day, birthday and sympathy) My dd was laughing at me because I would not buy anything that was more than $1. Why would I pay $4 for a card I just can't bring myself to do this!!! WalMart has great, cheap cards!! I get what I can from their 48 cent cards, and if I can't find anything there, I got o the 94 cent ones. Any one else have this hang up? (and no, I cannot make my own, not a creative bone in my body!!! )

Did you know that the Dollar Tree sells them TWO for a $1...and NICE cards, too!! They even swap seasons like WalMart, etc. do! I was shocked...and while I AM creative at making them, I keep a few of these on hand for "quick grabs"!!!

I don't like spending alot of money on cards either, but I do like to give nice cards. I would go to the Dollar Tree or Dollar Store and get the 2 for $1.00, but then I ran across a yard sale and this lady had tons of cards from Hallmark, Shoestring(i think that's what it's called) etc, all kinds of very expensive cards for...drum roll please...25 cents a piece!!!!! :happy dance: I bought a ton of cards for all different occasions. I won't have to buy cards forever. Birthday for everyone I could think of, Sympathy, Wedding, Farewell, Miss you,, Retire, Baby Shower I mean every occasion.

I have the same hang up! I just can't spend any more than I have to on cards and just shriek when someone gives me expensive cards. I have bought blank cards and just write the message on the inside and that has saved alot of money too.

I do have the same hang up. I can't spend more than $1 on a card. I either have been making mine on the computer or I get them at the dollar tree, or card and party outlet. The card and party store has more of a selection.

I have the same hang up...I just had to buy a birthday card and found some really cute ones for .99 at Target...problem is you have to search through the cards to find the few .99 ones they have. Dollar Tree is great, they are 2/1.00 and have cute cards (even funny ones that aren't dumb funny, but funny funny....you know what I mean!)
Another thing I do, when Current has a sale on their boxed cards I try and order from there, yes you have to pay shipping, but it is a small fee when you get a box of 40 cards for .18 each (that was the last deal I got).

So yeah I buy discount card boxes 18 for $3 from half price books and write in them what I want them to say. If its something special I have all the stuff in my scrapbook supplies to make a really unique card for less.

Interesting that this was brought up today. This is a conversation dh and I had this morning.

Me: I'm going to the dollar store today to pick my Mom up a Mother's Day Card. Would you like me to pick up one for your Mom too?
Dh: I already did. I got one this week.
Me: You did? How much was it? (I have no idea why I asked. I should have just left it.)
Dh $7.00 after tax
Me: $7.00 ?!?! Did it come with jewelry? A little song that played her favorite song? I could have gotten it for a dollar!

(Fortunately he found it really funny and got a good laugh. Then I gently explained that next time he could go to the dollar store or I would be happy to pick one up for him. It was nice of him to think of his mother but $7.00 for a card?!?!)

I will buy the more expensive cards for certain occasions, especially if they are funny or really fit. But otherwise I buy the cheap ones. I often go to the dollar tree or dollar general and get them for 2 for $1
