Has anyone else ever hid purchases / accounts / credit cards from their dh? Or if you haven't hidden purchases have you played down (or lied) about the cost of an item? Or is your spouse honest with you about money?
I use to do this. I'd buy a new clothes, throw out the tags, bags, and receipts at the store, hang them in my closet and hope he wouldn't notice it was new. (He didn't usually). It made me feel rotten so now when I come home I just show him what I got, and show him the receipt before I file it away and he does the same for me. But sometimes, like recently when I went out of got a real pair of running shoes, I told him I got them, showed them to him, and kept thinking in my head. "Please don't ask me now much they were." He didn't ask so I didn't tell him but it doesn't feel 100% honest.
ETA: he does the same. He collect books. I keep find new ones on the shelf with no explanation of where he got it. It's not that either one of us mind the other buying things, it's just the fact that I tried to hide it so that it 'looked' like I hadn't bought anything .. not that he would mind if I did.

No, but I'm still working and making money too so I feel entitled to buy somethings sometimes. Now, when I quit I will probably feel guilty buying clothes and such so I can see how a SAHM may do that.

Nope. We are very open with our purchases and it is impossible to hide something from one another anyway...He works and brings in the paycheck, but I control the checkbook and know everything that goes in and out. If I do buy something, I don't hide it, I just tell him I bought it.
And if he buys something, he first checks to see if it's in the budget.

No. We both follow the budget closely so we are very open about what we each buy.

I've never really hid anything, but I may have put everything away hoping he wouldn't notice. And, I didn't do it necessarily to hide the fact that I spent the money. But, more to prevent a confrontation. Because I do ALL the shopping, he would sometimes lose touch with what things cost. If he'd been in a bit of a mood and I thought he might say something, I would just avoid the issue. But, if he asked, I would never lie. I would have done this earlier in our marriage -- like ten years ago. Now, I wouldn't worry about it at all. Of course, money isn't as tight, and he's learned to trust my shopping ability and sense of priorities in these nearly fifteen years!

I don't hide things from him, but I don't show him or tell him every little thing I buy, either. I have a monthly budget and it is up to me how I spend it.

I agree! I was very much like this too for these very reasons.

I've not mentioned things to dh before but he really doesn't care what I buy or what I spend. I'm the sale shopper so I always get a better deal than dh would have.
The only things I don't mention are my craft supplies for a couple reasons...1 he doesn't care and 2 I have so many unfinished projects that dh just laughs at me. But now were moving into a house with a huge shop/garage so I'll have tons of room and can actually work!

I never hide things from DH, I might not show him every little thing but I'm not hiding it, he can look in the checkbook or check our bank account online and see where every cent goes.
