This is also my first post in this thread, though I have been lurking since it started.
I have been avoiding both WalMart and Target, as they are huge pitfalls for me when it comes to spending. But today was a super busy day, and I had no choice other than to go to Walmart, as we really needed milk and a few other things, and WalMart is closest to us.
While I was there I saw:
- A few kids movies in the $5.50 DVD bin -- we didn't buy them
- A nice pair of yoga pants on clearance for $9.74-- I didn't buy them
- "bonus packs" of garnier nutrisse shampoo (including a conditioner)-- I didn't buy it, even with a coupon (we have enough shampoos and conditioners stockpiled).
Not to mention all the "rollback" grocery items that I didn't buy, because we just plain do not need them.
Generally, I would have succumbed and bought at least one of those things, justifying it by saying it was a great price. But I resisted. The prices may have been good, but I told myself:
if we don't need it, it isn't a bargain.
I estimate I could have easily spent an extra $20 or $30 today, and did not.
Today was the very first time I walked into a Walmart and walked out with just bread, milk, napkins and bananas. A silly small victory, but I feel pretty good!
