I'm so jealous of you that get to sleep with the windows opened! We started running the A/C in March of this year and typically run it till November!! I'm living in the wrong state!!

I'm in dry AZ, too. Set at 79 in summer w/shutters closed and ceiling fans going, then at 71-74 in winter. It's just too dusty to open the windows much! Saw my first scorpion of the season tonight.

In Ohio here, and all winter we keep it at 68, if it gets really darn cold we may turn it up to 70, but rarely. I'd rather put on a sweater or curl up under a blanket than pay so much for a little more heat. In the summer when it's humid we have the air on usually around 74-76, though dh likes it closer to 70-72! He is always hot, anytime of year, so I find myself in a sweatshirt or under a blanket a lot!

I hear ya! I'm in Tucson and wish we could open the windows! We have a ceiling fan in our room and the living room and those are usually running 24/7. We keep the a/c at 79-80, high I know! But we were paying almost $200 a month on electricity so we have learned to live with it. We have a 2 story house which means it's HOT upstairs so we spend most of our time downstairs! We have this really neat fan that you can set for a certain temperature and it oscillates that we have in Aiden's room and we have a solar screen on his window because his room is so hot all the time! Poor guy =( Anyway, good luck!! If you have any more ideas for living in AZ let me know!

DH says I am a polar bear b/c I like the house cold. But compared to you all, I'm shocked at how high we keep our air. Our house is actually perfect at 81 during the day, with all fans going. If I turn it to 80 it gets cold to where we need a sheet/blanket to cover up with.

I don't know if this is because we have 3 a/c units, so they have less area per unit to cool? I don't know, but our a/c bills are $450 per month with the a/c at 81. I do turn the upstairs unit to 80 at night.

My friend who has the same size house keeps her house at 85 during the day - UGH I would DIE.

At 79 degrees our house would have icicles forming...

North Charleston, South Carolina--today's high was 91!

Our central air is broken, so right now we are using two window units. One in my room, and one in the living room. It is okay at night with fans helping to circulate the air, but since we live in a little tin box (mobile home), it only stays about 5 or 10 degrees cooler than outside! If it gets too hot, we retreat to my bedroom. It's small enough the window unit keeps it cool. DH is going to have to work some serious OT to come up with funds to fix our unit before July hits us!

No AC in this house, we sold the unit 2 years ago as it simply was not a luxury we were willing to pay for any more.

Electric bills that leap $100 in the summer is just not acceptable. In the winter, no problem, we've got to keep warm, but if it's hot, we just deal with it. It does eventually get cooler in the evening and a lot of it is in your brain.
The house is kept at 62 in the winter and whatever is the summer. Granted this house has very poor insulation, but insulation aside I would just never pay that much.

We got a swamp cooler last summer, used it a few times when the temps hit 95+ for a few hours in the hottest part of the afternoon, other than that, it is what it is.

Live in Denver now, so low humidity but also lived in Chicago, Atlanta and Phoenix. I've lived in all these places without AC and it's really not that bad, it's all what you tell yourself it is.

However, when my folks do come to visit in the winter we will turn the heat up to 70 for their stay.
