Once upon a time Consumer Reports had a article on generics being my brand name companies, with just different (generic) label put on them. Did anyone else see this article?
I would love to get my hands on it and post it here.

The only one I know for sure is Great Value (Wal-mart) Peanut Butter is made by Peter Pan. When the recall went out those were the only two affected.

I've never seen the article but i know it's true. I used to work in a factory that made sandwich bags ,garbage bags, wet wipes and cotton swabs and the same product went into many different brands of packages. Topco, Value's choice, store brands, etc.Food canning companies also do this.

He gave the example of bleach. He said that he picked up a load of bleach from a factory that had several different labels on it, even though it was the same bleach, bottled in the same factory. We like generics even better now Stop & Shop Corn Flakes and oatmeal and the Target brand of Honey Nut Cheerios are some of our favorites!

As the previous poster stated, this happens with canned food also. I worked briefly at a canning factory (in the office) and, literally the labels would change every x amount, but, it would be the same product on the line. For example, Green Giant labels, Seneca labels, and, store brand labels would all be packaged the same day. So, it is the exact same item, same people, same date, different label. It really made me re-think things!

I think that Aldi brand is pretty much nothing BUT name brands with their label on it.

Yep, it is true! That's why I think people are funny when they refuse to eat generic anything. My dh wasn't so sure about it when we first got married, because he always had name brand stuff, but he doesn't care now.

I even saw something once where they did a taste test of name brand vs. generic, and most of the time the generic won out.

My SIL works for a local grocery store and she was talking to one of the reps for laundry detergent and she said that Purex is actually made from the same company as Tide. I never checked the labels to see if she is right though. But I must say- I love my Tide- I actually use both the powder and liquid- the liquid is a great stain fighter (it gets enough grease out of DH clothes- more than anything else I ever tried).

I toured a pretzel factory near Lancaster PA and saw with my own eyes, the pretzels going into 3 different bags, one was their brand (Anderson?), I think the other one was Snyder but the last one was that white & black packaging from the 80's remember that! It was so embarrassing as a kid!

my best friend her cousin works in town at quaker oats and the millville granola bars that you buy at aldis are made at quaker oats and so are many of the cereals there...my dh's grandpa used to pack green beans for green giant a long long time ago and depending on the day is what label you put on it so everyday there was a different label... companies have done this for years...
