I buy playdough so much because of it getting dried out. I'm not wanting to spend anymore $$ on it if I don't have to. Is there anything I can do to make the old stuff soft again?

This is my dh's trick. He adds a little water to the container and lets it sit in container for about one day. then the next day is kneads the playdoh and dumps out whatever water is still in container.

okay I just talked to dh here's what he does. I just put about 1 teaspoon into the container and close the lid. A few days later, the playdoh has absorbed the water and is soft again. If it is completely dry, you are probably out of luck. I do know he kneads it before giving it to the kids.

DD is too little for playdoh. We would make homemade playdoh, (I am sure you can find a recipie on line) then we would keep it sealed in a plastic jar with a screw on lid. My mom would make us a new batch every year but it worked well we used big nut jars.

You could make homemade playdough if you like. Otherwise, it really should take a long time for playdough to dry out. We have some that we have had for more than a year and it is still fine, just double check that the lids to your containers are on tight before putting away.

I always double check the lids before the kids are allowed to put the playdough away. I have made homemade playdough but have had better luck with the real stuff. The homemade stuff was just too sticky!!

I made my first batch of homemade playdough a couple of months ago, and it's been great! I keep each color in its own ziplock freezer bag. (Freezer bag just 'cause it's more heavy-duty than the reg. ziplocks ) I think what makes it stay moist is the oil in it. I wonder what would happen if you add a little vegetable oil to yours? Then knead it in, of course. May be worth a try!

My mom used to make, as my brother used to eat it. we would keep it in a plastic bag so it would not dry out. i think all it consisted of was flour, salt and water with some colourants
