I am thinking of going to our local farmer's market for the first time this weekend. How often do you go? Is it worth it? can you get items at a descent price?
thanks

We are really lucky to live within walking distance of one. I find the prices a lot less and the produce is local which means it's way more fresh and environmentally friendly. Hope your visit goes well. One word of warning though .. bring cash .. most farmers market's only work in cash. I had to learn that the hard way the first time I went and couldn't get anything. I almost never use cash anymore.

I think that farmer's markets are great. I wish that our little town had one. Where my parents live about 45 minutes away from us they have a good one.

We are fortunate enough to have several in our area. They work hand in hand with our state's WIC program and we get famer's market vouchers ($25 per child). The kids love to go and pick out their own corn and strawberries!

I love farmer's markets. Sometimes if you go near closing time, they discount their produce so they don't have to take it back home.

Your farmers market works with WIC! What a great idea! That benefits everyone all the way around. I love to hear when government actually works with the people! Is the $25.00 each week or each month? I wonder if my state does this?

Our farmer's market is a small thing but it is growing. Prices seem to be cheaper and I really like the idea of buying local produce. I was a farm kid myself growing up and I attempt to lend support in any way that I can.

It's nice to support the local farmers. There is one a few blocks from my house that is held 3 days a week. They also have some stands that are organic. The baked good tend to be pricey but I find the produce reasonable.

We have a few nice reasonable farmers markets in the area- there are a few that are more on the pricey side though. I have to admit that I perfer to go to the Strip District (in Pittsburgh) though- the sell wholesale to local grocers and they have great prices (on a lot of things from fruit to oriental rugs!).

We live within walking distance of two farmers markets here. I love going to them, sometimes it is a little more expensive than the grocery stores I shop at, but I love fresh produce. We have one or two "farmers" who are actually just buyers, their produce always has stickers on it from California! So I stay away from those, but I have gotten to know some of the local farmers and have my favorites.

This is what I was gonna say too. It's kind of a toss up...if you get there earlier you get a better pick of the stash...however, if you go later ~ toward closing, most will discount thier goods.
