I tried so hard to jump into this challenge but I just couldn't. I stockpile because periodically our income dips down to less than half. When DH isn't getting much business with his Electrical Contracting job he isn't getting paid. He also rehabs houses to resell which does make a good amount of money but that income is sporadic and cannot be counted in our week to week budgeting.

I do not want to use all my stockpile and then be left with bare cabinets, an empty freezer and no money to buy food.

Been there done that - not doing it again.

Sorry ladies

I will definitely take the challenge! My friend and her husband moved yesterday and they brought me 3 big boxes of food! Everything from pasta/rice to veges and meat. So I do not need to buy anything for a while. My cabinets are overly stuffed so I will make sure to cook from scratch and use up what I have. Also, we are soon to be moving possibly in 6 weeks! More incentive to use it all up so we don't have to try to move it.:happy dance:

Hi guys. This is my first post. I'm on board with the use it up thing. I started this week to save a little extra cash for our upcoming vacation in July. I'm using a ham bone that I froze after a dinner I had a couple of weeks ago. I fix these with split peas (a bean) that my kids love despite the green color. It's loaded with protein and the ham bone gives it a great taste. We are having cornbread with it(using up corn meal I bought on sale) and some cooked apples with cinnamon and brown sugar (of course I only buy produce on sale). Three boys ages 18, 15, and 7 and two adults will eat a great meal for about $3.00-$4.00.

i'm in too ...with one exception. During the summer i dont buy canned veggies due to buying local produce at the farmers market and eating out of our garden. I have really been trying to switch to organic and non-processed foods for my family's health. (even dairy products -- which are expensive when buying organic).

We are actually going through this at the moment with shampoo/conditioner. We usually have all sorts of different bottles of them. I decided to stop from buying any until it was all gone. We are finally down to almost nothing now!

This is a great idea. While I was on break at work, I looked up hot dog recipes to use up a package my daughter brought home from a camping trip. Hot dogs are not a favorite with most of my family, so... Hot Dog Hash was a big success! Fried potatoes, onions, sliced hots with salt, pepper and garlic to taste. Everyone loved it! Yay for me!
