Ready or not, here it is! Our Spending Less Challenge that will run through July 31st. The challenge is to stay out of the stores, and use up what you have. This includes groceries! (I know at least one of you has a nice stockpile of 14 cans of corn).

We should check in with each other frequently - daily, or every other day. Each daily thread will be titled "Use it Up" Challenge Check-in. In the daily threads, post your successes, challenges, tips for "using it up" and times you lost your resolve. Or, post your corn recipes! LOL

Good luck!

For me (and I am SURE many others as well) this is a GREAT challenge! I am always buying more stuff (shampoo, conditioner, canned foods, seasonings/ spices, dressing, makeup, lotions) before my other stuff runs out! This will be a good challenge for me! I think it will help me get my drawers and cubboards cleaned as well!

I will jump on this wagon. Now I need to look in my pantry and try to figure out new & exciting things to cook with all my canned stuff. Forget about shampoo and tolietries, I have an OCD when it comes to that. I will totally FREAK out if I go in the linen closet and find tht there is only 1 bottle of shampoo, conditioner, deordorant or soap left. I am not kidding, I get so nervous and sick over it. I will attempt to get over it for the next 6 weeks though, I promise!

It sound like a good deal in priciple some of my goals are also to eat healthier so does this exclude buying and replacing things like dairy and produce or do we just have to use it up before we buy more? I think I can do it but our family still will need to have things that will go bad or run out before July 31st.

Green bean casserole, on the back of every French's fried onions can or Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup can. We love that recipe!

It's funny that this is our challenge because I just made up a list of dinners I can make with what I have on hand last week! I'm halfway through it now though, it will be more difficult to think of things next time. I can do it though! I'm up for the challenge.

My shelves are 7 cans lighter on tomato products! I'm making a large batch of spaghetti sauce that is for the most part going into our freezer and will be a big help when the baby comes this week or next! Currently the sauce is being used for pizza (I'm using leftover dough from cazones over the weekend and lamenting the fact that I don't have any canned pineapple on hand) and more will be used for meatballs tonight!

I forgot to add that the meatballs where pre-made by me and frozen in our deep freeze out in the garage! I hit to of my stockpile places!

Tonight, dh and I are going to be having sloppy joes...we're trying to use up that stockpile. I bought about 10 cans one week at Kroger when they were only $.10/can.
