We have an HE washer, too. I used to use all HE or Purex HE, but I just started making my own. I thouht it might be a big hassle, but it wasn't. I had the kids make a batch for a school project, and I've been very pleased with the results. I used the recipe in Mary Hunt's Everyday Cheapskate newsletter.

I was told years ago, while getting my washing machine fixed, not to use Tide because it make too many suds and breaks washing machines. I use All clear or Mighty All and baby All. I really do like all. Plus Baby All is acutally the only baby detergent that acutally gets my DDs clothes clean. I think I have only lost a handful of outfits to permanant staining over the past year.

I use Kirkland (Costco) even in my HE washer. I just use a very small amount. It works great and will probably last forever it seems because of how little I use. Though I currently have a bottle of liquid Tide with fabreeze (it was left at my house by a person that moved) in it and man it does smell good!

I use tide, but recently my sister was washing clothes at my house and she brought over her Arm and Hammer and it works really well and leaves the clothes fresh smelling. That is always a problem. My clothes never smell clean so I'm switching, plus its cheaper.

I buy whichever liquid is cheapest and I never have had a problem. I pour the liquid in as the washer is filling up and then I add the clothes. Of course, our clothes are never really dirty, just sweaty or lived in. On some loads I use a liquid fabric softener (again, whichever liquid is cheapest) and I always use a dryer sheet.

I like Tide for cold water, All Small & Mighty and when I used baby detergent, I used All Baby Care. I used to use Arm & Hammer, but it wasn't getting my DH's clothes clean. DH works with food and has some hellish stains that can be difficult. I've heard great things about Costco's detergent, so I might try it next time I buy detergent.

I use Tide Free, but only because ds and I have very sensitive skin. I have thought about switching to something cheaper but I really hate the risk having one of us break out in a rash. I try to stock up when it is on sale and I have coupons.
