Latest Blog Entry: Where is my mind today?

Hair salon, weekend and day trips, eating out as much as we used to. I haven't given up much - I've always lived fairly frugal so that I could afford the few pleasures I do have.

scuba diving... that is what I miss the most

Going out to eat several times a week (but, having DS (almost 18 months) at the "impossilble to go out and eat" age makes it a lot easier)
Daz Bog lattes (organic coffee shop, so yummy!!)
Magazines from the grocery store
Buying clothing on a whim
Buying lots of books from Barnes and Noble

I'm sure there's more...

I used to buy a lot of new books, now I swap books or buy used. I also use the internet more which decreases my need for books. I also used to buy tons of magazines. I found a site on the internet that allowed me to swap my old airline miles that had been sitting in limbo for years for magazine subscriptions and a subscription to The Wall Street Journal.

I forgot to add nice bottles of wine. I buy wines that are $6 or less now.

I'm a magazine junkie also, i LOVE People magazine it's my favorite, but even with discounts that is one expensive magazine to subscribe to! I now wait very patiently for the newest issues to arrive at the Library and check them out. Same with Newspapers.
I really miss having my hair permed a few times per year, and colored at the salon also. I haven't had a perm now in atleast 2 years and miss that!

Shopping for "Fun"
Frivolous Impulse Buys - snacks, magazines, etc.
Convenience/Prepackaged Groceries
High Cost Entertainment - concerts, professional/college sporting events
Buying extra little gifts for everyone else - nieces, nephews, grandparents, etc.
Dining Out
All the latest Electronic Gadgets - We used to always get the latest and greatest in consumer electronics.

What we used to do in excess or on a whim is now a planned, budgeted event (i.e. concerts, sporting events). What used to be bought in volume (clothes, electronics) is now bought in quality. What used to be bought out of curiousity (the latest and greatest of whatever) is now bought only from necessity.

We still do some spontaneous things and give in from time to time, but we can afford to do that because we have cut back otherwise. It's more about controling impulses and doing things in moderation.

i now get my trashy mags from a neighbor, borrow movies from the library, cut out most of our cable bill. we have every channel now we have basic. (the kids hate me) also stopped buying pop at the checkout line. if i'm really thirsty, i'll scrounge for .50 cents and use the machine outside. still saving, slowly but surely.

I gave up salon shampoo and conditioner, I just buy the cheapest one I can find now. We also stopped eating out. We ate out every sunday and sometimes picked up a pizza on friday too. It's been a couple of months now since we eaten out....that's a big one for us! A few years ago, we gave up some of the channels on our cable. We used to rent a least one movie every friday night but I've only rented one in the last 3 months. I stopped buying pre-packaged snacks and sweets, I'm baking my own now...haven't given in yet but might sneak a package or two some day ! I've almost completely stopped grabbing a Pepsi while out and about too. I used to get one every second thursday on the way home from band practise but now I don't. I don't get the kids a chocolate bar hardly ever at the check-out counter, like I used to. I could chop out a lot more but I don't want to overwhelm us too much...we might rebel !!
