I recently found out our utility co. has a time of day savings plan. You have a special meter installed on your electric meter for about $5 a mo. You get a 50% discount on electricity used during non-peak hours (8pm-7am) and a 40% premium added to peak hours. It suggested to keep track of electric usage on your meter for two weeks to see how much you used during peak and non peak hours. Also, weekends are considered non peak hours. I called the electric co. to ask about it and they said it might not save me money since I'm home all day w/ the kids. Also, I have a gas water heater, gas stove and oven so there would be no savings there. I couldn't imagine not running the ac w/ the kids home in 90deg. weather just to save and don't want to pay 40% more to use electric during the day. What do you guys think? Do you have a program like this where you live?

Our electric company will give you a discount if you allow them to cycle on and off your A/C during the hottest parts of the day during peak summer.

We don't have A/C so no savings for us.

Mne does this also. My friend didn't like it. I think it might be worth it if you aren't home during the day, but I think a programmable thermostat is a better investment for that.
