I was thinking of buying my meat in bulk and was wondering of anyone had any information for me? Have you ever done it? what did it cost? How long did it last? Would you do it again?

In MN, we have a publication out out by the state ag board called Minnesota Grown, and you can find farmer that sell whole, half, or quarters of an cow or hog, or whole chickens & turkeys. Or if you know any farmers that you could approach about buying all or part of an animal that they may be butchering in the future.

I buying a 1/4 of a steer from my parents who farm. I have friends who know other farmers in their area that sell. So, you might want to start with talking to your friends and neighbors and see who knows who or contact your state Ag dept. and see if they have some kind of publication like we do.

I guess this topic isn't very popular. What about buying freezer packs, combo's of chicken, pork and beef?

I got a price quote of $375.oo. Does that sound about right?

Hi Draggy,

Is that $375 Canadian? It sounds just a little high to me, but when I was looking last summer, it was in USD. Maybe with the exchange rate, that would be right. Sorry, I don't remember the exact amount that I was quoted last summer, but I think it was around $275-325 USD.

HTH!!
