I've got one, my dh has 2, so three total. One has a balance thanks to my dh cuz i did have them paid off! However I do want to get that one everyone talks about-the rebate one where you can earn target cards! Which card is it? Help me out! That would be wonderful to pay everything with that, pay it off every month and earn target money! I know several of you have it, which company is it from?

We have none because when we were first married my husband had around seven which were all maxed out. We worked on paying those off and cancelled them as we payed them off. Now we don't have any, but I'm thinking of getting one for emergencies. I haven't used a credit card in over ten years! We realized we may need one when my husband went away for work and needed to rent a car, they needed a credit card to be able to rent it. Finally they agreed to rent to him without it.

Dave Ramsey says that he is able to rent cars with his debit. So if you don't have one of those maybe you could just do that....?

I use my Discover and my Kroger cards all the time but I have ALWAYS paid them off every month. I also have 5-6 other cards that I opened over the last 10 years for one reason or another but am planning on cancelling as soon as the refinancing is done on my house. I don't even carry the other cards with me anymore and haven't used them in a couple of years. I charge everything on my 2 credit cards to get the cash back and Kroger checks. I have enough discipline to not buy something if I know I can't afford it.

We have one that we use for everything to get points, but we pay it off every month. Ours is a holiday inn priority club card, so we get hotel points, but they can also be traded in for gift certificates and other stuff. I also have a GAP card (for rewards) a Kohls cards (for the extr discounts, and a gymboree (for discounts) I always pay these off right away when I use them.

We have a couple, Discover that we used to use for Sam's only but quit doing that, cash only if I have to go there. We just got the Disney cc and we have a couple more that have been paid off and we owe nothing on. We do not want to end up in cc debt and will use them only if we need to and then it gets paid off at the end of the month. We use our debit card for everything and very seldom carry cash on us.

No, they did not want to accept our debit card, but they did finally. It is their policy to take credit cards they said, and my husband was going to have to get his boss to fax them a number from their company that could be used, but they decided to accept the debit card. I was surprised too, because that was the first time in over ten years of not having credit cards that a company has required one. Probably different rental car companies have different policies.

Dont cancel your old cards. If they have no balance, then keep them. One way to calculate a FICO score is they look at the available credit you have and how much of it you have used. If the percentage used is low then they give you a higher credit score. If you cancel the cards, the amount of credit availabel to you will go down and then your ratio/percentage will be higher and your FICO score lower.
I have cards from 1997 when I moved to the US and I still keep them active. so I can show that I have a long history with credit cards and no late payments in 10 yrs. That increases the FICO score. Also if you have a lot of cards you opened recently and cancel the old ones, then they will think you dont have the history.
I hope I make sense.!

I have an awesome credit score right now and am doing several financial transactions so I shouldn't need another loan for many years so I'm not really worried about my credit score. When I pulled my credit report earlier this month I found out that my (ever so darling) ex had applied for credit in my name during our marriage so I have lots of accounts open and really don't even know for sure which ones he may still have access to. I intend to just close all of the accounts except for the 2 cards I use and just start over. I've had my Discover card over 15 years so have a great history and fabulous credit score so not worried about those things. Jerkwad has screwed me over again!

Under 'normal' no jerkwad circumstances, I would agree with you to not close old credit accounts.
