Is anyone else starting to get ready for the wintertime?

Besides having a good bit of Christmas presents, gift cards set aside to purchase presents for my girls- I called around about propane today. We have a propane furnace that we stopped using about 3 years now- when the gas prices started to get high! We resorted to using electric heaters and a kerosene heate- but after the capped price of electric came off- there is no way I am going to heat my house with the heaters anymore (or the Kerosene- unless an emergency!)- especially when I got many bills a few cents away from $300 ! It will be a steep purchase in the beginning- but I am willing to get it now before it gets cold!

I am also looking into getting new a new thermostat, prices on new duct work compared to getting the ducts cleaned. I also have to call the oil company tomorrow to get a price on oil for my mom- she may be getting her oil early. Also I am hoping that I find plastic for windows at a good price. Oh the joys of mid-summer!

I've been clearance sale Christmas shopping and tag/consignment shopping for winter wardrobes. We lucked into a bunch of hand-me-downs for the baby that will fit this winter, so I just have to do a few fill-in pieces for him. I've also started the ball rolling with contacting oil companies so we can get the best price. Ugh. I'm dreading that. Our car died a couple of weeks ago, so we used our oil fund to put a down payment on a used mini-van. Double ugh. Oh well...at least we have a few more months to prepare. I feel like we're pioneering here LOL!

I've been freezing fresh veggies for eating in the winter.

Not yet but I need to! Now that I have DS, I am sure it will be worth my while (and pocketbook) to go ahead and start to do some clearance shopping now. I really am not a fan of wintertime, with the exception of Christmas but I am starting to get excited a little (mainly I think it is because we have DS and it will be his first winter, first Christmas, etc.) I have a couple of toys that I bought when I first found out I was pg. on clearance-they are 6 mo. toys so they will be a perfect gift from Santa!

We just used our savings to prebuy 500 Gals. of heating oil. OUCH. But we won't have to worry about fuel until spring HOPEFULLY. Our house is well insulated, and we just got a delivery a month ago.

- I have to blame it on the cicadas! I think that is how you spell it! As soon as I hear those bugs I always think 6 more weeks of summer and I heard the first one yesterday- so if the saying is true the last day of summer should be August 29th! December is usually a hard month for us financially- as well with Jan. and Feb.- so I like to try to get a head start on what we have to do for then! It seems to go a little easier each year the earlier I start (and this year is better since we do have a little savings account and Dh is working a lot of side jobs and hopefully his pays will roll in shortly!).

Gosh, I'm so busy right now just trying to get me and my two boys ready for the beginning of the school year that I haven't had time to think of the actual winter yet. I've been to my doctor four days out of the last week between me and the kids for shots and now the dentist tomorrow. Plus I may be starting work tomorrow, depending on what my manager tells me today. I'm not buying a lot for Christmas this year, can't afford it with paying for my school and books and my kids have too much anyway.
