Along the lines of breaking whole dollars and saving the change. My husband and I paid for our 4th Anniversary cruise using all change we had collected in 4 years of marriage! It was heck to roll it but the cruise was worth it!

I just wanted to add something that I do to save a bunch of money with my dishwasher.I use dawn dishsoap (just enough to cover the bottom of the holeabout the same as a cascade tab with dishsoap in it)in the second spot and a electrosol tab(bought in bulk at sams club)in the 1st 1 that closes. I have been using the same bottle for over a month and a half now and I still have over 1/2 a bottle left of the small bottle and I'm only using 1 electrosol instead of 2. Whoo whoo Its great!!

In the dishwasher..I have always, for the last 20 yrs., only used 1 tab(detergent) in the spot that closes and have never put anything in the 2nd spot. My dishes have always come out great. Should I be putting something in the other spot...use 2 tabs?

No, just the 1 tab. I believe the directions say just one tab!! No worries!

Warning! You must be VERY diligent in balancing your checkbook for this tip! But wow - it works.

We hear the phrase "being nickled and dimed" a lot. One day I thought, why can't I "nickle and dime" our everyday purchases and turn them into something positive? When I enter a purchase in the checkbook, I round it up to the next one or two dollars, and by doing this, I am able to save $50 a week on average - and we never even miss it! Example of how I enter it in my checkbook register:

Description and Actual Charge..............Amount Subtracted from Balance
gas and lunch ($54.32).......................$56.00
cell phone bill ($165.00)......................$167.00
groceries ($46.94)...............................$48.00

In this example of 3 purchases, you've already saved $4.74! Remember - you must be on top of your checking account, or this could become a mess of gigantic proportions. I balance our checkbook weekly, just because I'm like that!

shawndeanna, when I worked at a grocery store, we had a customer who did this very same thing. One year she took her family on a nice vacation, another year she used it for Christmas. She told me how much money she had at the end of one year.........amazing! I had forgotten about this. Thanks for the reminder.

You are only to put in two tabs if your dishes are not prerinsed. If they come out clean I wouldn't worry about it.

I have been doing the rounding up for many years. When I was a single mom this is how I paid for christmas every year. I told my sister about it once and she started it and one month when she had no money left she use it to pay for food.
