Not only do I love a good deal, I love telling DH or my Mom or you guys when I save a whole lot of money. I assumed everyone was like this until yesterday. I stopped by a friends house to return a book I had borrowed (how frugal of me not to have bought it at the store! ) and she was in the middle of pouring generic laundry detergent she bought at Dollar General into an old bottle of Tide! She had already poured her generic liquid fabric softener into the empty bottle of Snuggle.

I was like what in the world are you doing? She said she always does it in case she has company over and they look in her laundry room, she doesn't want them to see that she shops at the Dollar Store and uses generic. I wanted to bust out laughing because it was just so ridiculous but she was perfectly and honestly serious.

Not only would I not waste time doing something so crazy, but what kind of company would snoop in your laundry room and then make fun of you because you use cheap detergent? Anyway, I just never thought of people being embarrassed because they are trying to say money. Like I said, I love it when I can save a $1.00 here and a $1.00 there and I love telling people about it. So I was just wondering if anyone else did questionable things to avoid looking too frugal.

That's funny.

Here is my embarrassed to be frugal story. I hate ordering pop at restaurants because I can buy a whole case for the price of one drink. It just makes me feel ripped off. When I'm with friends, I'm too embarrassed to just order water and look cheap so I always ask the waitress in the most sweet voice I can muster, "Do you have anything diet that is non carbonated, like diet ice tea or diet lemonade?" They never do. Then I just say, "Oh, thanks, I think I'll just have water then."

I know it's shallow. I just hate looking cheap. I also like to be generous. I'd rather over tip for good service and not pay $2.50 for a diet pop.

I love to see how much I can save! I'm not embarrassed a bit about being frugal.....probably because we don't have a choice

I agree with the pop thing at restaurants though.....I think that it's totally ridiculous what they charge!!! It's almost just as cheap to drink a beer and I'd rather do that, lol!

That is going overboard!!! It is one thing to not want to look cheap when you are out with friends or such, but if someone is looking in my laundry rooom (which I doubt anyone would be doing!) then it is their problem!!

Heck no, I don't get embarrassed being frugal!

My husband used to feel wierd using coupons until we were at Harris Teeter one day for triples and this SUPER hot guy in front of us whips out a coupon envelope when he paid. I mean, he looked like a guy straight off the cover of a romance novel...sexy manly voice, rugged good looks, flannel shirt, work jeans and boots...sigh...

Since then, my husband doesn't seem to care as much... now that he knows that it's ok for "real" men to use coupons.

This is kind of small and if I hadn't had the Huggies diaper I wouldn't have worried too much about it but I did notice for Logan's last doctor's appointment I made sure he was wearing one of the Huggies brand diaper instead of the generic brand that I had way more of!

But, like I said, if I hadn't had it, I wouldn't have worried about it but I did catch myself changing his diaper into the more fashionable one!

I have a friend who married a guy who is the heir to a small fortune. He is resentful of the fact that the conditions for him to receive his "allowance" is to be employed FT.

One thing he does to maintain appearances among his fellow wealthy friends is to pour cheap vodka into a Grey Goose vodka bottle. He doesn't want his friends to know that sometimes he can't afford to buy a $50 bottle of vodka

I LOVE getting deals too and it does not bother me to share. I have a really pretty picture on my wall. It looks like it is expensive and someone painted it. It goes perfectly with the wall colors (that were here when we moved in!) Everyone asks where it came from, and how pretty it is. Usually I kind of shrug and say, well, WalMart has the newest budding artists...

Not only in the interest of saving money, but also in the interest of getting everyone in the family to drink more water, we ALWAYS ask waiters to bring us water right from the get go. The kids NEVER drink enough water and it ends up saving us about $10 off the cost of the meal by the time you figure 6 of us!!!!
