I love Mommysavers!

I just can't believe how my whole outlook on homemaking has changed over the last four or five months! It never occurred to me that you can make almost anything that you find in the grocery store yourself, from baking mixes to marinades to seasonings, yogurt and ice cream, baby food, sauces, anything. My mom always cooked from a box. And now a whole new world is opening up to me with the possibilities of canning, blanching, freezing fruits and veggies, making your own cleaning solutions and baby wipes, the pros of cloth diapers (or even infant potty training... see my other post in the Babies forum), using rags instead of paper towels... Wow! And I get excited about coupons and using powdered milk for cooking and baking.... It makes me want to do a happy dance! :happy dance: Yup, like that! For many of you it might be just common sense, but I just didn't realize how easy, fun, money-saving, environment friendly, and healthy these deviations from the convenience-world would be. I enjoy my role as homemaker/SAHM so much more now than I did when I brought DS home from the hospital 4 1/2 months ago. I'm glad I found Mommysavers sooner rather than later. Thanks for enlightening me, everybody!!!

I think it is great just knowing that you're not alone sometimes! But the sharing of ideas is helpful as well!

Isn't being a mom wonderful?
I just joined this board - seems very helpful! I'm a SAHM to a wonderful nearly-10 month old boy. I've been doing the cloth diaper thing, making my own baby food thing, breastfeeding (still) and basically feeling like a social outcast. I love the time with my baby and the time away from my stressful career. I honestly feel like the past 10 months has been the most wonderful vacation of my life. It hasn't all been easy, but it has all been wonderful. I have nightmares every so often about going back to work - but we're committed to making sure that won't happen until we're ready.

I'm glad I found this board, it seems like a fun place to hang out on those rare occasions that my little boy entertains himself.

I am amazed and impressed to hear how you younger women have bucked the trends. I did it in my day, but I think it was easier then. Not having money was the driving force. I wonder if I could have kept my resolve if there had been an option for me.

My mother was not a cook. I had to teach myself. Without the internet, there weren't such ready resources.

Blender made babyfood and cloth diapers, cooking from scratch and not eating out. Hanging clothes and all those diapers on the line. It really must be harder today.

Good luck and keep the faith.

I enjoy mommysavers. I feel like I am talking to friends that love being a mommy as much as I do! Others that realize the importance that the title mommy means. I love the support system here. I love mommysavers! My greatest internet find!
