Hi all ... while I was pricing out the microwave popcorn in the store last evening, I remembered seeing here -- somewhere --- a technique to microwave regular popcorn in a brown paper bag. Does anyone still have that info? Thanks!

If you like butter on top, I would put some in a mug and melt it in the microwave first. If the butter is HOT when you put it on the popcorn the popcorn will shrivel. Then grab a brown lunch bag, place about a handful of kernels in it. Fold the top over twice, lay it on its side in the microwave. Turn your microwave on for about 4 min. You'll have to listen to know when it's done. When the popping is slow and there is a pause in the pops. It's time!! Pull it out put it in a bowl, drizzle with butter and salt and yummy.
I did it like this for a long time. But this year I bought a popcorn popper at Walmart and love it!! Use it all the time. Though it's more fattening because of the oil !

The paper bag works great. That way you can buy the regular popcorn at 2lbs for a dollar. I did get a Presto microwave popper as a gift and like it as well. I still use the regular popcorn and it needs no oil.

We make it this way all the time as a way to cut costs. I use The spray on I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and salt. It's not as delicious a microwave popcorn but you gert use to it. Besides it's so much better for you this way.

Someone had posted this a while back and I tried it. My family loves it and I can make it whenever. I splash the popcorn with olive oil before I pop it. Makes the bag really greasy, but I like the flavor.

What a great tip!! I never liked pouring melted butter over popcorn for just that reason. Why in the world did I never think to let it cool off for a minute? I feel like a total idiot. And I also feel like making some popcorn!
