I am having a yard sale in a couple of weeks so I have a question about pricing.
How much do you usually pay for clothes. I was thinking $1-2 dollars each. These are adult clothes(can't get rid of the kids stuff-hope to have another one) I also have some pretty nice household/decorative stuff and a loveseat in excellent condition but I have never sold furniture before at a yard sale. Any help would be appreciated. This is my first post but I have been lurking around for about a month. I love this site!

I have never done a yard sale before, but I like to go to them. In just thinking about what I would be willing to pay for clothes, if they were in really good condition, $1-2 is probably reasonable. Probably $50 for the loveseat? It also depends on the kind of area you are in. you could go to a couple yard sales in your neighborhood next weekend and see how everyone else is pricing things...

I love to shop yard sales!! One thing I have found is that you if you overprice things or don't put a price on them, they won't sell. Only the hard-core yard salers (the ones who show up early) will ask for a price. I never pay more than a dollar for a clothing item uinless its a coat or something, or something name brand, like-new or very nice. $50 for a loveseat sounds reasonable, though most people price it higher and bargain down if need be. (maybe $75?)
When we used to hold yard sales alot I noticed a pattern in the way people would show up:
1. First thing, the hard-core people. They buy up furniture, appliances, anything worth something. They know what they're looking for and what they're doing. They either buy something or look around and leave immediately.
2.Later, the "kid" people. They are looking for baby stuff, kid clothes, toys, etc. They are less "seasoned" and don't bargain as much, but will buy what they need.
3. Very late--the curious people. They are stopping by because they are out and saw the sale. They are game for anything and don't try to bargain. In my experience, they don't buy much but if they see something onteresting they get it.
4. Last--the scavengers. They know you don't want to haul stuff back into the house so they try to get things free or for next to nothing.
Some tips:
1. Put your loveseat along with any other big items in the most visible place to attract people. Big stuff will probably sell first.
2. I usually start with higher prices first thing, then put up a sign that says "everything half price" once it starts to slow down. (around 10-11) At the end, I'll say "make an offer" or if I really don't want to haul stuff back in, I'll do a "fill a bag for $2" or something like that.
HTH!! Let us know how the sale goes!
