How much do you spend on groceries a month? I am trying to budget our groceries and I feel we spend WAY too much. Just curious to know what is "average" for everyone. We have a family of 4 and spent 1100 this month!!! We do spend a little more because I try to do as much organic as possible. But, $1100 seemed extreme to me.
HELP.

We spend about $250 a month. But that is after coupons, rebates, and sales.

$500 on all food spending is our budget. We try to stick to it. We are a family of 3 though I watch my nephew so I have 4 at times.

We are a family of 5. We spend around $150 - $200. We don't buy many pre-packaged items, clip coupons, and, watch for sales and stock up. Also, my parents have a farm so we get eggs from there for free. We have come up with lots of creative egg/ rice/ bean dishes! LOL!

I think we're about $300-$400. I buy a lot of organic myself. I might be running a little high right now because I'm canning some items and I have to buy extra of certain things. $1100 does seem high but that could have something to do with your location as well?

We are a family of 3 and I try to keep it between $200 - $250 a month. When we were a family of 2, I had no problem staying under $200 a month, but the toddler is asserting himself into the budget in a big way.

I budget $700 for groceries--that includes laundry detergent, toilet paper, etc.

I have a family of 5.

At the beginning of summer I was spending $800-900 month for a family of four. Now I'm spending about $400-500 a month this includes all food, cleaning, laundry and personal supplies. It has been a challenge but I use coupons, watch for great sales and stock up and I quit buying magazines and candy at the checkout counter. Let us know how you are doing!

Take care
Michelle

I always think long and hard before I pick up the organic stuff. Sure, there are real benefits, but those benefits have to outweigh the cost differential. They rarely do to me. But just because I pass over them, doesn't mean that I will pick up any cheap food item. I scrutinize the ingredient list of everything. And I watch the cost per ounce as well. Cooking from scratch with mostly unprocessed foods and keeping meat to a minimum gives me the most bang for my food buck. Inexpensive and as healthy as I can afford.

Four weeks, 2 people, about $150.
