My dh has a United Way donation taken right out of his paycheck so we never even miss it.

I hate to admit it but I have not been as good about this as I need to be but that is about to change for the better. In the past I have found people in need and took them shopping (my thrifty way of course not brand new items) or if I had something they needed I would give it to them. I have also donated to the church and fundraisers and things like that. However, if you saw my post on my sellathon then you know I am selling everything right now. After we finish our journey, my hubby and I have decided to give anything we outgrow or no longer need to others rather than selling stuff. We also have a plan that will put our charitable giving first instead of last. I am so excited about our GET OUT OF DEBT NOW journey that I am sure you will hear me mention it alot. Just bear with me

Our school does a food drive that begins in November, and the kids are encouraged to bring in just one canned item or boxed item. My kids really get into it, and so does my somewhat stingy husband. The last 2 years, I've taken $30 to Aldi just to buy food and toiletries for this food drive. Last year, I was able to bring in 5 bags of food!! As the food and stuff comes in, they start filling up the display cases, and the kids get so excited watching the cases fill up!

The church we used to go had a food pantry, but they did away with it. After tithing, I always made sure any other offerings were marked "Food Pantry" so it would be used towards purchasing the food from the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.

I definately think there are plenty of ways to donate your time, gently used household items etc as well as monetarily. We do all three. We are lucky enough to be able to contribute generously to our church and charities we feel strongly about...as well as volunteer our time, and donate clothing, toys, books etc that we're not longer using.
