Have a family yard sale this week at my sister's. Don't know if I should save the $, pay debt, or use for entertainment (going to dinner w/ dh, shopping). Keep in mind I have no savings but I do need to pay off debt to help us make it through the month more smoothly.

I'd probably use it to pay down some debt, or set it aside for emergencies. Hopefully, you'll make a decent sum, and can use some for bills, and savings. Good luck with the yard sale!!

Ours just goes into our general fund, though usually after a garage sale we take some and order pizza because I never feel like cooking!

Even though we do not have much if any of a savings we like to use the money for something special. In May when we had one we used the money to buy a swingset for the girls. Next year we will probably used it for something else we need/want in the house.

You could always set it aside and use it for Christmas, too!

For me, I use it to go garage saling and get clothes for the kids. I also buy "gently used toys" for Christmas gifts for my kids as well.

But my situation is different - we are debt free but the house.

We just sold a few things recently we used it to go out for our anniversary. Despite having little in savings and debt. It was a big splurge for us but at least we didn't go further in debt splurging

I'd say at least take part of it for splurging, if nothng else pizza and renting a movie, or givin the adults each $20 to spend, and maybe the kids $5 on whatever they want. It's a reward for working so hard, and decluttering!! The rest you can be "grownup" with.

At my garage sales that we have I always let my kids go through their toys and they can choose some to sell, priced very cheap and they get to keep the money. They rack up a few bucks and use it for whatever they want. Then we use our earnings for dinner out one eve, usually a saturday roadtrip to the nearest big city and have a little fun and put a little towards that months bills. We just try to stretch every single penny....we are always happy w/ the outcome.

We're having one soon and ours will be going towards debt -- too many medical bills right now!
