Are you trying to pay down consumer debt?

Do you just hate the thought of paying more for something than you have to?

Do you have trouble making ends meet and every little bit helps stretch the budget that much farther?

Are you earmarking the everyday savings for a large purchase?

We just don't like spending more that we have to in general...it just seems silly to waste money that way. We also use the extra monthly savings for large purchases and sometimes add it to our investments or mortgage principal. I guess we are just savers by nature and like to spend less so we have more to save.

Definitely all of the above, and I'd like to save some for the kids' college education as well.

Where do I start? Outside of all of the above, I've never been tooooo much of a spender, per se'. We have a little bit of credit card debt we need to pay off, then we need to save save save. Honestly, our goal is to save $150,000 in the next 5 to 7 years. It may seem OUTRAGEOUS to some, but to us, it's honestly not too out of our league. Outside of our regular savings of my 401K and our IRA's , we are saving to build our dream home. I'd like that much saved up, and put about 90% of it to a down payment, and the rest for incidentals/emergency fund. SO I guess my real answer would be to save for something specific, along with it makes me sick to spend way too much for something that could have easily been found for cheaper if we only had looked hard enough.

All the reasons you stated.

Most of our friends are 2 income earning families. We stretch our money so I can stay home.

It seems like something is always breaking (vehicles, water system, etc).

all of the above, and even if I was a millionare I would still want to spend less and save. I don't see the sense in paying full price if you don't have to.

Good question...yet I see it often.

People don't care how much something is, if they want it they buy it. My sister and her husband are notorious for making large purchases (think cars ) without doing any research at all. I know people who think store brands are sub-standard and won't even try them. These same people won't even bother to peel a coupon off an item in their cart to get the savings.

I don't know...some of these things are no-brainers, yet people don't seem to want to bother.
