My husband and I will probably be moving in the next couple of months due to a job change for him. We bought the house right after we were married and we didn't have alot of stuff back then. Well, 7 years later a a 2yr old ds means we have accumulated alot of stuff! Does anyone have anytips on how to move on the cheap? We may have to hire some movers for some of our furniture b/c it's really big and heavy. Any advice or moving do's and don'ts would be appreciated. Also does anyone use a storage building? I don't know the cost but it obviously couldn't outweigh the cost of the stuff in there or financially that wouldn't make sense.

Thanks for any help!

We just moved. Dh and I did the entire thing ourselves. Very tiring!! We made 2 trips in the largest U Haul they make!! We moved 1.5 hours away. My mil came and helped with the kids. We moved a heck of a lot of stuff. We had 9 people living in our house!!!!! We were so totally worn out it was not funny, but there is no way we could have paid for movers.

We have always moved ourselves before this time. You know, rented the Uhaul, packed the house, moved it all, lots of fun I must tell you! I HATE moving! This last time (about 4 months ago) we rented a POD (they have a website) and it was wonderful! They dropped it off at our house, we packed our house up and then they picked it up and moved it to the new house. We had 2 weeks to unpack it and then they pick it back up. It worked great for us and cost total about $250. We have NEVER had movers!

I am moving next summer, but I have already done a lot of research in saving money. First, it is a lot cheaper to get a Penske truck and pack and drive yourself. You can get coupons on move.com the last time I looked. The coupon was for 10% off. I looked into the Pod. It would cost me twice as much to use versus the moving truck. That is including feeding my crew to help load and the gas money to haul the truck. I got a lot of tips on move.com; lifeorganizers.com; organizedhome.com; livingonadime.com; homefair.com. I also got some tips from ladies on here, when I posted a few months ago. The biggest thing is to purge like crazy and get the truck size appropriate for your home. We rented a 24ft last time we moved and had a lot of room left. We are renting a 16 foot this time. It anything don't fit, it is not going. The size makes a big cost savings. If you have any questions, you can pm me.

my sister moved and she needed two pods and it cost her 350 bucks but she said it was well worth it they took a solid week to pack everthing into the pod then they just went to the new house and unpacked in a week but they had 2. she said it was well worth the money in case they had a hard time finding people to help.
