I'm destine to trim my personal me budget some more this year. I had a breast reduction 6 weeks ago so I no longer need to buy specialty bras and hunt for tops that fit my chest. No more shopping at Lane Bryant for tops I've cut out haircuts every 4-5 weeks I'm now going about every 3 months. I've let my hair grow longer because of this and now my consumption of hair styling products has gone done by over half. I'm to ashame to admit how much I use to spend on hair products. I now get my nails done once a month instead of every two weeks. I'm working on cutting that out too I just haven't been able to bring myself to that. I know there has to be cheaper shampoos and conditioners out there than what I'm paying at the salon. Right now I get a liter of shampoo and a liter of conditioner for $25. That last our family of 6 about a month. Can anyone suggest a good brand of shampoo and conditioner that I can by at Target/Walmart/CVS that is comparable in quality but cheaper in price?

did you ever think about letting the kids use a cheaper shampoo and keeping the good stuff for you. i have my kids use loreal kids shampoo(they like the smells) and dh and i use nioxin. also if you get the pump for the litre put a rubber band around it a couple times then kids can't pump it down so far and waste so much... if you want to change to a store brand the nicer ones are almost as much as salon shampoo on sale so be careful about price per ounce.

I buy my kids the Breck shampoos, conditioners, detangler, and body wash. I get them each for a $1 at the Dollar Tree. Also, I buy Suave shampoos and conditioners for me. They have a lot of newer items now that are like biolage, nexius, and so on. It couldn't hurt to take a look and try.

I buy the 2 year old target brand baby shampoo, the older kids Suave or Loreal or whatever is on sale cheap, the kids shampoo smells really nice and fruity. For DH and I, we use Aussie and I love it. It is good for my hair and the Aussie Mega really adds volume to DH hair.

I just bought Suave for DD (it was the combo shampoo & conditioner) and DS will use that when his baby wash is gone. I was buying baby wash because it seemed like I always had coupons for them. DH always uses Suave and I buy either Garnier Fructis or Herbal Essences. And even those are under $3 per bottle.

I used to use nexxus shampoo and conditioner only. I ran out of my liter pumps when there wasn't a sale going on at the salon, so I went and bought a drugstore brand. I started using Loreal Vive Pro Nutri Gloss for curly hair (and my hair is long, too, it goes down past my bra in the back) and I really like it! It really helps with my frizz, keeps my hair soft, and curly hair is really prone to damage and breakage (esp when you straighten it a few times a week like I do). It's in a pink bottle and it smells really good! I do use a clarifying shampoo once a week, too, just to keep product buildup off. They have one for short hair, fine hair, long hair, damaged, color treated, etc.

I am a convert.

This is the walmart site that tells about it -

I use Suave and White Rain. In fact, White Rain was rated one of the BEST on a morning show, can't remember which one, nor can I remember what survey it was. Its usually less than $1 and I often find coupons for it. My kids use the same as I do, unless I'm feeling generous and I buy them a nice smelly shampoo for kids. LOL I actually do NOT wash my hair every day, however I condition every day. My kids don't wash thiers every day either, but my dh does. I do find that a bottle of shampoo in this house will last about 6 weeks.

I use a variety of products.... basically whatever I get for free at Walgreens or Riet Aid. These two (CVS as well, but we don't have them here) have great rebate programs and always get free shampoo & conditioner almost monthly.

I do buy sometimes, but it's got to be less than .50 a bottle. That being said I use a lot of suave milk & honey conditioner, neotorgina, garnier fructis, loreal and tresseme.

I do occasionally slurge an will buy a higher quality deep conditioner and do a weekly/ monthly deep conditioning.

My hair is long ans naturally wavvy/ frizzy, hits my bra strap when it's down. I only get trims/ cuts every 4-6 months or so, but have gone as long as a year between cuts. I have no other hair issues and it's very healthy. Like others, I do not wash it every day as it can really strip the natural oils from your scalp and hair.

I would suggest you try a few different brands and see what you can't settle for.
