We recently bought an awesome lamp for our living room at Home Depot for $29 marked down from $89. Actually...it didn't cost us anything because we had a gift card.

When we got home I realized that it was a little too contemporary for our existing side table for the sofa. I was all distraught because I worried I would either have to return the lamp and continue to use the hideous one we had in there or buy a new side table.

I started looking around the house and decided to move our bar next to the sofa as a side table. It is a gorgeous smaller deco-ish piece that is sophisticated and had sort of gotten lost in the corner of the dining room. The lamp looks right at home next to our crystal decanters and there is now a drawer for storage of the remotes so they don't have to sit out in the open all the time...nice.

Then I started looking around and moved some other pieces here and there and completely removed some items as well.

Wow! The whole place looks like it had a makeover and it only cost me some time and $29 for a lamp.

The next time I get the bug to redecorate, I will be sure to work with what I have first before spending a lot of money.

Have you ever seen the show Freestyle? It's pretty neat to see how things can look so different using people's stuff they have in other rooms. I've tried to do that, but we have so little in the way of furniture and accessories that there's nothing that can be swapped from room to room. Enjoy your new space! :D

i needed a photo for my bathroom for a little spruce up so i got a frame on sale that has 6 openings for photos and printed out some really neat pics my dh took of flowers this summer. it looks so good and only cost me $5.75. i think you just have to start thinking out of the box sometimes.

Great bargain, and great to have a low-cost new look.

What a great reminder! I sometimes do that when I just get tired of stuff the way it is. Start moving pictures or lamps, whatever works. It gives you a new look for ver little cash.
