Ladies,
Dh & I havce decided that we are going to try to not shop at Walmart (due to their not so nice practices). How do you do that? Where is the best place to go for paper products & cleaning supplies. These seem to be the mainstay of my Walmart shopping. I know I can get my groceries from Publix & Krogrer on sale (bogo) & I mostly buy clothes at Target & Sears on clearance.
Any other non Walmart shopping tips are appreciated also!
Thanks & wish me luck!

Well, for the groceries, I think Meijers is a better deal. Buy the Meijer brand or the generic brand on the things that you can stand. Our meijers doubles coupons up to 50 cents. To make coupon clipping worth your time, only clip coupons on stuff you will use. I am not sure where is the best deals for paper products. I try to only buy Scott tp because it lasts the longest and doesn't clog the toilet. I try to only use the paper towels for gross spills. It is good to have them on hand, but I try to use towels or rags for most stuff.
You can save on cleaning supplies by buying vinegar, baking soda and bleach. If you have an Aldis or Save-a-lot nearby that will help also. You will learn by trial and error what you like from those stores. I pretty much like all their stuff except canned veggies and ketchup. I think fresh fruit and veggies differ from store to store.

I have rarely shopped at WalMart. Before I married, I did not have a Walmart close enough to make it worth my while to go. Now that there are Walmarts everywhere, dh won't shop there for philososphical reasons.
I don't know how Walmarts prices compare, but I get paper products at BJs or on a really great combo of sale and coupon at my local grocery store. Cleaning products come from Walgreens, CVS, or the grocery store.
In addition to TArget and Sears, you might try Kohls for clothing.

We get all of our paper, cleaning and bulk food items at Sam's club...for the money we save every year, the membership pays for itself in one or two visits! My DH and I, too, have been attempting to avoid walmart at all costs...there are "emergency" stops that we make there MAYBE once or every other month. We're hoping to get it down to NOTHING at all. In a cost savings spread sheet that I did, I found that Walmart was actually NOT the cheapest (at least in my area) for MOST things. When we get the circular for Walmart, we just throw it away...that way we aren't tempted to go there. Some people don't mind walmart, we avoid it like the plague.

I avoid WalMart when I can. Though in my area it isn't easy. WalMart is 45 minute drive from me but Costco and Target are an hour and a half. I just make sure I stock up when I go to Costco and Target and plan the best I can. As for groceries, I rarely buy those at WalMart simple because the items I buy are cheaper elsewhere.

Consider shopping at 'third tier' stores. Look in your phone book for "Cash N Carry" or "Grocery Outlet". Also look to purchase some of your paper products and cleaning supplies at a restaurant or janitorial supply store. Also do some comparison pricing for these products at office supply stores and major hardware stores (Home Depot, etc). You just might be pleasantly surprised. Not all the brands will be the same but I guarantee some of the items will be better than you are using now.
Of course, also check the weekly ads. Sometimes I find items like toilet paper is better priced at Target or KMart than anywhere else.

I drive past Walmart to go to Target and Martins grocery store. I've started limiting my Target trips as well. I get prescriptions at Target because they are so convenient. I like several store brand items from Target.
I use club soda, vinegar and baking soda for cleaning. I buy most of my non-food items at our grocery store and some at Target.
You can do it!

Sam's Club is owned by WalMart...so if you're trying to avoid WalMart, you probably should avoid Sam's Club as well.
I'm not a fan of WalMart, but I do go occasionally. I'm much more a Target girl!

Isn't Sam's Club part of WalMart?
I'm sorry you'll all think I'm a bad person but I love WalMart! There isn't much to chose from in the sticks where I live and that is where I do the majority of my shopping.

I don't think you are a bad person. The main reason I don't shop at Walmart is because the Walmart that is near my house is awful. It is dirty and service is bad. My husband says the Target near his office is horrible and Walmart is nice.
