When people ask for ideas for presents for you what do you tell them? Do you think of what you need around the house, and ask for that so you don't have to spend your own money (towels, bakeware, cookware, gift certificates for a grocery store). Or do you ask for things that you want but really could live without (new purse, certain item of clothing, etc)?

I like some of the niceties that I won't splurge on for myself. Like Yankee Candles, nice & cute new pjs, Cds (no, I do not own an IPOD!!), Body Shop lotions, thnigs like that. Forget the practical house stuff - who wants a can opener for the holidays?!!!

I've asked for both before, but I tell my DH not to buy jewelry or HH goods unless I tell him that is what I want. He gave me a can opener for Christmas one time (I didn't ask for it), and he hasn't lived that one down yet. That Christmas, he did give me other things which would have been sufficient; he just wanted a new can opener for himself.

I am so bad at this, but, I NEVER buy things for myself, so it is nice to get the extras for birthday and christmas. I got a vaccum from my mom for Christmas last year, but, I needed one and wanted one- so that was great!

I usually ask for stuff that I don't normally buy for myself - Bath and Body Works stuff, CDs (although I'm asking for an IPOD this year), books, candles, higher end makeup kits, etc.

dh and i don't buy for each other but the kids buy us something little usually a cd we want. as for other family members that ask me unfortunatly i ask for the practicle stuff because most of the time i can't afford to get those new towels or cookie sheets.. i usualy feel guilty if i get something that is not needed i will usually take it back and get something practicle or store credit and get groceries. dh gets mad about that but its just the way i am.

I don't like receiving household items for gifts. One time my husband got me a microwave for Valentine's Day. He's just lucky my birthday was 6 days later so he could make it up to me.

Gifts should be fun!! I don't love getting a necessity as a gift.

Ya, my husband bought me a Nintindo Gameboy one xmas -- I was expecting a ring. It's amazing we're still together after that one!

I'm hard to buy for (or at least that is what he told me) but I think my husband, after almost 10 years has figured out flowers or take me to the book store or craft department or garden center!

Well the only one who asks what I want is my parents. I always try to think of something that I need so I won't have to spend the money myself. Last year I got a Gift Card for Lowe's!!! That sure beat another shirt!
