Ok, here's my dilemma.
I have no idea what to get my 14 yr old for Christmas.
No idea what to stock his stocking with.

Last year, his father & I gave him the same identical gifts his mother & her husband gave him. It was comical but pathetic at the same time. Neither of us checked with each other so he ended up with duplicate.

He will be getting Disney dollars for our trip in Feb as part of his gift but I am stuck on other things to get him.

I have a 13 1/2 year old DS...so I know you pain! Last year we did a treasure hunt with riddles as the clues and at the end he found a little chistmans tree with money tied to the branches. this year he got a refurbed computer, that he is already using and he will get a new computer chair and a note saying "hope you are enjoying your computer" under the tree. I am a firm believer in cash...it always fits and never goes out of style!

For stocking stuffers I would rely on the good ol' reliables: socks, deodorant, a gift card to a store like Best Buy (or a place that has stuff he likes), a cologne, some mints, candy or gum.

ITA about having him make out a list so you can get him things that he would like (and maybe share part of the list with his mom- after you chose what items you will be getting for him). I actually insisted on an early list from my oldest-since she is at the inbetween stage (somewhat growing out of playing with dolls) and I actually got it earlier this week (which is nice since I can pick up some items before Christmas!).

Definately try to get him to make a list...my kids never seem to want anything and it's a trial trying to figure out what to get them! Then the day before Christmas they'll so, oh Mom, by the way, I like _______ . LOL

For our stockings, we do all kinds of things...from favorite candy, favorite foods (like I often put in those little boxes of sugary cereals), CD's, DVD's, small electronic items, paperback books, gift cards, magazine subscriptions...

Comic books, graphic novels, manga, packs of cards for any trading card games he's into, gift cards for McDonalds or whatever, those are good stocking stuffers. Maybe books, hair gel, Tag or Axe body spray, pocket knife with lots of features... you can't go wrong with those sorts of things in a stocking.

I have the kids make a wish list, I'll get a few things from it and the rest is cash. They love the money and it's so much easier on me. For stocking stuffers I get makeup (for the girls of course), books, little things from the Dollar Tree store (they've got alot of stuff).

an electric razor,,,, *might be a year too soon, but maybe?*

totally agree about lists,, for YEARS i've had my kids make lists,,, big, small and everything in between, so i have plenty of guidance and options

also, the body sprays i agree are great ,, they sell a lil' 5 or 6 pack of the 'tag' ones in a gift box *that you can open and drop in stocking if ya wish* anyway,, i recommend that EVERY year to someone that has a 'big boy' they're buying for.. it has the multiple scents so you don't have to know what he likes,, and at that age, HE may not know yet,, so it's good to get a sampler

my son ALWAYS gets a package of oreos for christmas and b'day,, it's a 'thing'

now's a GREAT time to start a 'thing' like that,, just some lil' something that he really loves,, make it a tradition,, my mama did those danish butter cookies for me for YEARS,, was fun and nice always knowing that i'd get those, and I think Quinton feels that way about the oreos

I agree with asking for a list. There may be a specific pair of shoes, jacket or other piece of clothing he wants (in the past only girls that age were interested in clothing, but some of the boys are catching up). Does he play video/computer games (my DH certainly does)? Games can be expensive, but sometimes you can find a good buy.
