I brightened someone's day yesterday, and decluttered! We just got married a couple of months ago, and we had tons of gifts that we had tried to return but couldn't (for various reasons - mostly we couldn't figure out where the heck they came from!). So we took one last chance and took everything to walmart to try and return it, and only three or four items could be exchanged. We still had about a zillion things (at least it seemed like it!) and so we left everything at the counter while we went grocery shopping and asked the associate to give whatever she could away to other employees. It was VERY nice stuff, but it just wasn't our style. Plus we like what we have already, and it would have cost way more to drive around and try to find where everything came from. Anyway, we just forgot about it, and on the way out the door, an older woman (that worked there) came up to us and said, "Can I give you a hug? My son is getting married in two weeks, and I couldn't afford anything nice to give him and his wife for a gift. They will love everything you left here, it is perfect for their new house, thank you so much" She tried to give us money for it, but we turned it down. It turns out that the lady left the gifts with went and got her because she knew that she was having trouble and gave everything to her! I couldn't believe it - I know we can't exactly take credit for the gesture, but it still makes me smile that we (although indirectly) made someone so happy!
