We do many of the things that have already been mentioned:

DH takes a list with him for the weekly stuff we need from the store -- he picks it up after work (just a 2 mile detour to the store).

We switched our pharmacy to the one that is in the same shopping center as the grocery store where DH shops.

We switched doctor's office and dentist to places that are closer to our home.

DS takes the bus to school now.

We don't go anywhere on the weekends unless it's a Boy Scout trip, something we volunteered for, or our monthly grocery shopping trip. Luckily, we have a park, the bank, a nature trail, and the post office within walking distance. We also have things to do at home -- BB gun, tomahawk, archery, etc.

I buy most Christmas and clothing items online. It costs $25.00 roundtrip to town. It costs about $6.00 for shipping.

We take one less trip/per year downstate to visit my dad.

We bought a pool several years ago, and this worked for not using gas, but I think we probably evened out on the cost of chemicals . . . .
